Class Experience

Create an Artisan Berry tart in this class.  We will make this pastry together in steps:  creating the base dough first, followed by rolling it out on a parchment paper lined baking tray, finishing off with arranging the berries and making an artistic border all around the tart.
Simple ingredients and supplies needed:  bowls, measuring cup, knife & spoon, rolling pin, baking tray, parchment paper and herbs of choice, butter, flour,  vanilla extract, sugar and  a little of jam and then some berries of choice and clean hands!
** You can substitute honey for the sugar or another type of sweetener you use, and any kind of flour you prefer
Parental Guidance needed for this class:  cutting the butter into little cubes,  using scissors to cut the herbs, combining ingredients, baking in the oven.

Supply List
Simple ingredients and supplies needed:  bowls, measuring cup, knife & spoon,  rolling pin, baking tray, parchment paper and herbs of choice and scissors, butter, flour, sugar and berries of choice and clean hands!

Your choice of herbs:  rosemary, thyme, sage.  You can use, one, two kinds or all or None at all
Your choice of berries: raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, boysenberries etc.  You can use  one, two or all -- frozen or fresh
One stick of unsalted sweet cream butter ( 1/2 cup or 8 Tablespoons ) cold
1/4 cup of sugar--** or you can use honey or another  type of sweetener of choice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
a little bit of jam or honey- your choice

Cooking aprons/smocks to wear to protect clothes, sponge/paper towels to clean counter top

Baking time:  40-50 mins at 350 degree fahrenheit or 17.2 celsius

I am the Founder of Connecting Children to Art in Nature; educational business  that offer children and families services to connect to nature in artful and eco-friendly formats and perspectives.  I create educational design and curriculum for youth and families for botanical gardens, children's schools, private and public settings, nature centers, as well as lecture in universities and colleges presenting professional development workshops for educators. My class offerings on Outschool are inspired by various pedagogies such as the Reggio-Emilia and Waldorf practices and place-based, best practices in environmental education.  I offer traditional art studio courses, art appreciation, art & nature-based classes & programs, and environmental education.
