En esta clase semanal, aprende sobre un nuevo animal cada semana y completa una interesante actividad STEM relacionada con ese animal. This class is an exciting and hands-on way to learn about the features that makes animals unique! Each class will start with a show and tell and discussion of the animal of the week (see schedule below). Then, we will transition into our experiment or activity. We will follow the format below: 1. Show and tell 2. Discuss any personal experience with the animal of the week (Have you seen it in the wild? Is it a pet? Have you observed it in a zoo?) 3. Video, pictures, or live-stream view of the animal 4. Hands-on S.T.E.A.M activity 5. Closure and animal requests Activities will utilize some common household and craft supplies. See the supply list for suggestions. There will be a weekly classroom post detailing materials needed for the following week. Students will get the chance to interact and ask questions throughout class. We will discuss the steps of the scientific method or engineering design process in a casual and no-pressure way as we model the steps during the activity of the week. Each week is independent, so new learners can drop in any time! Schedule & Supplies: Week of 3/17: Octopus "squeeze" (gallon bag, paper plate, sharpie marker) Week of 3/24: Owl eyes (paper plate, tp or paper towel tube, crayons, glue or tape) Week of 3/31: Animal tracks (flour, salt, water, animal figures) Week of 4/5: Giraffe skin salt painting Week of 4/12 Whales and blubber Week of 4/19: Birds & nest building PAST Week of 4/18: Spider climb Week of 4/25: Peacock feathers Week of 5/2: Make a bat fly Week of 5/9: Octopus "squeeze" Week of 5/16: Owl eyes Week of 5/23: Animal tracks salt dough Week of 5/30: Giraffe skin salt painting

Parental assistance may be needed when activities include safety scissors and/or household chemicals such as glue, salt, baking soda, and vinegar.

Suggested supplies include school glue, salt, flour, water, plastic bags, paper plates/bowls, construction paper. The classroom and welcome post will be updated weekly, outlining the supplies required for the following class.

My idol is Jane Goodall, and I was fortunate enough to visit her chimpanzee sanctuary one of my trips!
