Mistakes are inventions to creativity! Students will learn resiliency through trying various methods and new ways to create what they envision. In this ongoing 1 hour STEAM class, students will learn the design process of designing, sketching and creating finished products.

During class, we will discuss the engineering design process and learn how to use various materials to create their own designs based on a theme. Using recyclable materials is an affordable way to utilize materials we all have around our house. Some of these materials may be cardboard, recycled lids, newspaper and magazines, natural found materials, wood scraps, fabric and more.

Each week, different suggested materials to have on hand or save will be posted in the classroom. We will create with loose themes and concepts, using various materials they have on hand. I will be here to guide them with their process, add suggestions and tips to help aid them in their creations and help them understand how to use various materials in creative ways. Each week, I will also have different project suggestions depending upon the material we are using.

**This is a THEMED class. Each week, we will try and build something based on a theme.** (For an un-themed, make-anything-you want class, please check my other maker space classes)

Students will have the chance to communicate and share what they've created at the end of each class. By attending the ongoing classes, students can acquire various types of knowledge on how to construct and design with many different materials.
Maker Space Club will turn your students into engineers, artists and designers and resilient inventors!

Please look over the Learners supply list to have an idea of what materials we may use for the class.
I recommend creating a materials supply resource for your student, as explained in the Learners Supply section below.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn-
The design process- How to brainstorm, plan, design, create, improve and communicate their ideas
New techniques of how to work with and construct with different materials

Orientación para padres
Students can use any tools they are able to. This may include a glue gun, scissors, wire cutters or any tools they have at home to create their projects.
Lista de útiles escolares
For this maker space club, students will use a range of recyclable materials around the house as well as craft supplies they may already have. Each class, we will be using different types of materials, such as cardboard, plastic from bottles, pipe cleaners and more. Below is a list of materials ideas we may use. You can also use any alternatives you may have. Each week, I will post some materials to have on hand that students will use for their projects. I have found, having a box or bin of various materials can be helpful for your student to have a workable resource for their projects.

For each class, students will need-
A piece of paper or a designated sketchbook and a pencil with eraser.
Each week, students will spend 5 minutes drawing and designing their creations before using any materials.

Some of the Materials we may use are listed below. Students DO NOT need to have all the materials below, but it just gives you an idea of possibilities that may be used throughout the classes. Additional materials not listed here are welcome to use in the classes-

Cardboard- cut up boxes, egg cartons, toilet paper or paper towel tubes, small containers, etc.
Plastic- recycled bottle caps, containers, straws, spoons or forks, boxes or cartons, etc.
Wood- popsicle sticks, dowels, tooth picks, clothes pins, wood scraps, etc.
Metal- pipe cleaners, wire, paper clips, etc.
Natural resources- sticks, pine cones, acorns, cork, feathers, etc.
Paper- straws, plates, cups, old books, magazines, index cards, etc.
Fiber- yarn, string, fabric scraps, ribbon, felt, stuffing, etc.
Adhesives- rubber bands, glues, glue gun, tapes, etc.
Items for decorating- markers, colored pencils, stickers, washi tapes, etc.
Basic tools students may have- glue gun, scissors, manual drill, stapler, etc.
