This class will introduce the concept of using roman numerals to represent the chords within a major or minor key. Following an introductory segment, learners will analyse a short piece of music, firstly by having a go independently, then by sharing answers as a group to check for the correct answers and discuss any alternative interpretations. Learners will be able to build their confidence through multiple examples in different keys. Teaching will largely take place via the whiteboard and shared screen within zoom. There will be some quiet time during this session for learners to try the analysis independently, but they are welcome to ask questions during this time. Prior knowledge: Learners will need to be able to read notes in both treble and bass clef in order to complete the activities, and they should be familiar with major and minor scales, and recognise roman numerals I-VII. Knowledge of chords/triads is a bonus, but this will be outlined at the beginning of the session. This is a useful skill for students preparing for ABRSM Music Theory exams, as well as other music courses and assessments.
