What are some of the unique behaviors of shrimp?  What is an exoskeleton and how is it unique in the animal kingdom? How do shrimp relate to other arthropods in the ocean?  What are the mechanisms of the Mantis Shrimp's epic punch?  These questions will guide our exploration of these amazing creatures.

This lesson will begin with an anticipatory set or "share session" to identify student's prior knowledge on these topics.  New material is presented in a multi-media format. Learners create their own diagrams of marine arthropod structures from teacher modeling and dissection.  Our anatomy discussion will focus on the external structure and function of shrimp. Together we will explore other marine arthropods and them based on their characteristics. Learners explore some of the unique niches arthropods occupy in the marine environment.
