I will be teaching an introductory class in civics. I will teach the rights and responsibilities of citizenship along with how the naturalization process works for non-citizens. I will also teach the benefits of citizenship and the ways a person can lose their citizenship. This is just an introductory class, so we won't get into the Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, and The Constitution until the full class begins. My class is structured as follows: I'll do a short lesson, then have a q and a session with the students followed by a wrap-up of the material. My teaching style utilizes lectures, q and a sessions, and plenty of visuals for the students to see to help them understand the material better. I will introduce the vocabulary needed for the lesson with the requirement that the students start a vocabulary notebook. I will show video clips and introduce the students to the ICIVICS game/learning platform. There are also some fun little songs that will help the students learn the material. The only thing required for this class as far as experience goes is a student who is at least age 11, and who has a willingness to learn about this very important subject!
Metas de aprendizaje

I will be using ICIVICS.COM as a resource to teach this class. This is a wonderful site created by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor to teach kids about civics. This site is free for the students to make an account and it provides a lot of valuable civics resources as well as a very engaging game platform for kids to practice their civics skills.
I will be utilizing Kahoot as a fun game format for review of material covered in class. This is a free game platform for kids and they really enjoy competing with each other over the content. Nearpod is an interactive power point program that I utilize that is free for students. I can lead live nearpods over content and assign nearpods that the kids can work through at their own pace. They are a fantastic interactive resource that I have used for years. Ed puzzle is a short video clip platform that has the user watch short clips over selected information and answer questions as they go along. It is a free resource for kids and the kids really enjoy the clips. All of the above stated resources are FREE and I have utilized them in my civics instruction for years.
Fuentes
I will be using my knowledge of this topic along with a variety of sources: The U.S. Constitution, The Articles of Confederation, The Bill of Rights, The Declaration of Independence, and the site ICIVICS.COM which is full of teacher resources that I have used for many years.
