A Google Sheet grade book will be provided to learners taking the class for a grade to keep track of their turned in assignments. Reading questions and most homework will be graded on a pass/fail scale with partial credit given if not fully completed. Final project grading rubric will be provided with the assignment and will be given a percentage/letter grade based off meeting the elements of the rubric. This unit can be used as a part of American Literature and Composition for 10th or 11th grade English Language Arts. If students are taking the class for an academic grade, they should plan on spending several hours a week on the class for the lessons, homework, projects, and reading. Students can take the class for an official grade or no grade.

There are NO live meetings for this course. Multiple posts will be made to the classroom each week which will include: video lessons on the text and language arts/grammar lessons, reading questions on the plays, homework assignments for each lesson, and a final project.

Students will read the plays THE CRUCIBLE by Arthur Miller and FENCES by August Wilson. Students will learn about the basics of plays, allegories, connecting history to contemporary times, identify tragic heroes, plot elements, setting, historical fiction, character analysis, and writing a scene. Students will watch watch the film adaptations of one or both plays. Students will practice their own creative skills by writing a short play for the final project. Each week a different bell ringer lesson will post that will cover a topic of vocabulary words, grammar concept, or literary term.

This is unit 3 of 4 units in my English 3: American Literature and Composition Semester B self-paced class.

Metas de aprendizaje

Students will work on their critical reading skills and learn about how to craft a short play.
