Experiencia de clase

I will be teaching students tools to help manage their emotions before they become to BIG to handle. I will teach strategies for ways to handle different social situations. Students will work together while building social skills and confidence in a variety of different SEL Activities.

All learners are welcome in this class. Many of the methods and lessons that are taught in this class I have not only used in my classrooms, but also at home. I have an amazing, fun, high-energy son diagnosed with ADHD, Behavioral Disorder, and SPD at the age of 3. Throughout the years I have acquired a wide variety of tools, techniques, and methods that have be extremely beneficial and successful. My son has inspired me so much that I am currently in school, again, working on my degree in Special Education.

I created these classes so I could help students that are struggling socially and/or emotionally to become happy, positive, and in control of their actions/behaviors.

Children have a lot of really big emotions and feelings that they don't understand and/or maybe have a hard time identifying what they are feeling. Emotional & Social learning is a great way for students to learn what these feelings are, give them a name and learn what techniques they can use to make those BIG feelings seem not so big or overwhelming. This class will also work on building positive mindsets, learning how to express our feelings in safe and appropriate ways, practicing taking turns and listening, sharing ideas and contributing to class discussions, and working together to problem solve.

This class meets once a week. Each class is independent of the other. This means that you can join at any time. Each week we will explore a new Social Emotional Topic. Students will be given many opportunities to share, interact, practice, and learn. Themes by Week are listed below.

**Please note this class is not a group therapy class. I am a teacher and not a mental health specialist. Social and Emotional Learning can students the opportunity to learn about different topics and tools that can help them in everyday life, but should not be used as a substitute for mental health therapies.

EMOTIONAL TOPIC SCHEDULE:

❤️ Week of: JUNE 4TH: The RED Zone- ANGER
This week's class will be working on ways to identify how we are feeling and what we can do to keep them in our bubble
💡I will show students the different emotions chart. We will explore the different colored groups and talk about some of the physical ways these may affect our bodies and give us clues about how we are feeling.
💡Through a balloon demonstration I will show students a visual of how feelings can grow and what happens when we don't listen to our bodies and control them.
💡I will teach students the "I" statements and we will practice using them in different scenarios with situation cards I will read.

💙Week of: JUNE 18TH: Positive Mindset
This week's class will be working on ways to promote a growth mindset with the power of the YETi!
💡I will talk about and explain what a fixed mindset is and a growth mindset.
💡Students will get to explore and work together to help solve social situations as we explore the power of saying "I can't do that YET".
💡I will give students prompts to write or draw "Yeti" goals. Then we will work as a group to help each other think of ways that students can work to accomplish their goals.

💜Week of: JUNE 25TH : Friendship
This week's class will work on being a good friend.
💡We will start this class by sharing on the visual board what they look for in a good friend.
💡I will talk about different ways that students can make new friends and how to show kindness to their friends. During this part, I will also teach students about the boundaries of friendships as well.
💡Students will get to create a card for one of their friends using kind phrases to share why that person's friendship is special.

🧡Week of: JULY 2ND: Kindness

💡I will provide a printable for this class. Students will work on writing/drawing a “warm and fuzzy” message with words of kindness.

💚Week of: JULY 9TH: Self-Control
In this week's class we will talk about self-control and what we can do to keep our emotions from getting too big to control.
💡I will lead a discussion about what it means to have self-control.
💡I will teach students ways to self-regulate. Students will participate in a whole class discussion about what we can do when they feel their emotions growing.
💡Students will share a time when they showed self-control and what they would have done differently to manage their emotions.
💡As a class we will play "Self Control Highway" (virtual board game). Using social situations students will practice using techniques they learned in the lesson to demonstrate how they would use self-control in the situations.

💛Week of: JULY 16TH : Conflict Resolution
This week we will explore the different ways that we can problem-solve a conflict.

❤️Week of: JULY 25TH: Self-Management
This week we will focus on the things we can control and the things that are out of our control.
💡I will ask students to tell me things that they can control. Then things they can not control.
💡The class will participate in a live virtual activity that I will share on zoom. They will get to interact and place the pictures inside or outside the "circle of control". We will discuss the choices as a group throughout the activity.
💡I will teach students how our actions and words that we can control can not be taken back or deleted. I share a story and students will come up with ways that we can stop and think before we react.

⭐BONUS: From my self-made collection, when you enroll in this class you will also have access to a .pdf file that you can print or use as a virtual format, "My Emotions Journal" that I designed and created myself. This journal includes daily pages that reflect on their day. On each page they circle all the emotions they encountered that day, draw a picture of their favorite thing that happened that day, a challenge they faced, and how they handled it. There are 3 writing/drawing prompts on each page that is different each day that promote acts of kindness, positive self-image, and goals.

I created this journal for my, now, 8-year-old son, who has a whole lot of very BIG emotions that cause him to get into a negative pattern of thinking. This journal helped us to emphasize the positives and it seemed to aid in muting a lot of the negative talk. Many of the tools and lessons in this class have been from classes I have taken to help my son and also as continuing education classes while I was in the classroom teaching. Being able to help kiddos to calm their big emotions and, as we call the big sillies, our coo coo crazies are so important to me because not only does it help us as parents, but they can build better relationships, be successful in social settings, and with having an understanding of what they are feeling with the tools to assist in managing, the students will feel better.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will explore the tools and how to use them to manage their BIG emotions. They will learn how to identify different emotions and how to express these emotions. Students will work on a variety of self-esteem/self-awareness to promote a positive self-image. Problem solving skills and identifying appropriate behaviors and responses to emotions will be practiced with games, group/independent participation to be utilized in everyday life. And many different ways they can spread and show kindness.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been working with young learners for 18 years and have been educated on social emotional learning through many classes. I also have a 7 year old son with who has adhd and sensory processing dysfunction, who has lead me to pursue a degree in special education.

I am not a social worker or counselor. I am a teacher of early childhood and a mom with almost two decades of evolving knowledge on new ways to teach students to understand what emotions are and assist them in discovering ways, that work for them, to shrink and clam them. This day and age just keeps getting more and more difficult for little ones. Life moves so fast, video games and youtube have merged with a daily routine, and covid has impacted social skills and emotional irregularities in everyone. To me it is so important to help these students to explore and learn, in a fun and positive way.
