Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Homework includes short reflective journaling exercises, emotional tracking, and self-awareness prompts to encourage personal application of emotional intelligence concepts. Example Homework Assignments: - Keep an “Emotion Journal” for three days and reflect on patterns. - Practice a new self-regulation technique and write about the experience. - Interview a family member about a time they needed empathy and reflect on the conversation.
Tareas
These assignments allow students to explore emotional intelligence through creative expression like writing, art, or digital storytelling. Example Assignments: - Write a personal narrative about an emotional experience and how you navigated it. - Create a “Coping Toolbox” with personal strategies for handling stress. - Develop a visual representation (drawing, collage, digital mood board) of different emotions.
Proyectos
Students will work on a longer-term project that ties together course themes, culminating in a final presentation. Example Projects: - Final Project Options: - A creative storytelling project about an emotional challenge they overcame. - A visual art piece or digital presentation representing emotional growth. - A personal development roadmap outlining their emotional intelligence strategies.

Case Study & Scenario Analysis Students will analyze real-life and fictional case studies to apply emotional intelligence skills. Example Case Studies & Scenarios: - Analyze a conflict from a book, movie, or history and discuss how EI could have changed the outcome. - Participate in role-playing exercises where they practice communication and conflict resolution strategies. - Engage in restorative justice simulations to develop problem-solving and social awareness skills.
Evaluación
- Students will receive informal feedback on assignments and class participation. - Example: Peer/self-assessments, instructor feedback on discussion contributions, and reflection activities.

This 16-session course is designed for middle and early high school students (ages 12-16) to develop emotional intelligence through critical thinking, storytelling, creative projects, and real-life applications. Using evidence-based frameworks like CASEL, Project-Based Learning (PBL), and Understanding by Design (UbD), students will explore self-awareness, emotion regulation, empathy, communication, and social skills to strengthen relationships and build confidence. Through interactive discussions, multimedia resources, and project-based activities, students will gain practical strategies to navigate their emotions, resolve conflicts, and thrive in social and academic settings.

Class Experience

This class provides a structured, interactive learning experience where students engage in:

- Guided Discussions – Exploring emotions, relationships, and real-world scenarios.
- Storytelling & Case Studies – Analyzing characters, historical figures, and personal experiences.
- Creative Projects & Role-Playing – Applying emotional intelligence through arts-based expression, writing, and interactive exercises.
- Technology Integration – Using EdTech tools, video clips, and interactive platforms for reflection and collaboration.

How the Class is Structured:
- Meets twice per week for 16 sessions (8 weeks)
- Each session lasts 1 hour
- Content builds on prior lessons, focusing on different aspects of emotional intelligence.

Teaching Style & Interaction:
- Highly interactive with a mix of lecture, games, media analysis, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
- Small class sizes allow for personalized feedback and peer collaboration.
- Students will complete projects, journaling exercises, and group activities to deepen their understanding.

Required Experience:
No prior experience needed! This course is ideal for students interested in personal growth, communication skills, psychology, or leadership development.

Lección 1:
What is Emotional Intelligence? Why Does It Matter?
 In this introductory session, students will explore the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) and its five key components: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Through an interactive discussion and a self-assessment, students will reflect on their current emotional strengths and areas for growth. They will also analyze real-world scenarios where emotional intelligence plays a critical role in relationships, academics, and leadership.

Lección 2:
Understanding and Naming Emotions
 Students will dive deeper into self-awareness by learning how to accurately identify, name, and categorize emotions. They will explore the difference between primary and secondary emotions and how emotions influence decision-making and behavior. Using visual and storytelling methods, students will map out their own emotional experiences and analyze characters from media who demonstrate strong or weak emotional intelligence.

Lección 3:
Emotional Triggers & How to Respond Instead of React
 This lesson focuses on self-regulation, helping students understand their emotional triggers and how to manage their reactions. Students will learn about the brain’s fight-flight-freeze response and strategies to pause and process emotions before responding. Through guided reflection, they will develop a personalized “calm-down strategy” that works best for them.

Lección 4:
Coping Strategies – Healthy vs. Unhealthy Ways to Handle Emotions
 In this session, students will examine different coping mechanisms and identify which strategies are healthy, productive, and sustainable versus those that are avoidant or harmful. They will explore techniques such as mindfulness, journaling, physical movement, and creative expression to manage emotions effectively.

Orientación para padres
This class covers age-appropriate discussions on emotions, relationships, and conflict resolution. Students will explore real-life scenarios, but no sensitive or graphic content will be included. Video clips and case studies will be carefully curated for 12-16-year-olds. EdTech & External Tools: Students will use Canva, Padlet, Google Docs, or Jamboard, for collaborative activities. No accounts are required; links will be provided in class.

I am a certified educator and curriculum specialist with over 10 years of experience teaching Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Studies, and Humanities. I hold teaching licenses in K-6 Elementary, Middle School, and 7-12 Social Studies and have designed trauma-informed, arts-integrated, and project-based curricula.

I am also a 500-hour certified yoga and mindfulness teacher with training in restorative justice, trauma-informed teaching, and emotional intelligence coaching. My approach integrates evidence-based SEL frameworks with engaging, interactive methods to help students develop practical life skills.
