Álgebra 1, tema 7 | ¡Boom! ¡Lo he logrado!

Your learner is going to love this! It's a work session with other students where the goal is to really understand quadratics Each week we follow the same routine - a 10-minute brush up on concepts we've already learned. Then we're off and running. We learn a new concept regarding polynomial math and then apply what we learn though solving problems together. I will first walk through the steps needed to do the work, and then we will work through problems progressing from the easiest to the most difficult. Sessions are highly interactive, as I take time to ensure mastery and understanding along the way. Every problem that learners get stuck on is met with optimism and encouragement. These are opportunities for everyone to learn. Learners in this class will focus on the following topics according to the following dates: Sep 6 - Sep 12 : Evaluating Functions Sep 13 - Sep 19 : Graphs & Increasing / Decreasing Intervals and Inverse Functions Sep 20 - Sep 26 : Geometric and Arithmetic Sequences Sep 27 - Oct 3 : Exponent Rules and Exponential Functions Oct 4 - Oct 10 : Exponential Functions Oct 11 - Oct 17 : Evaluating Functions Oct 18 - Oct 24 : Graphs & Increasing / Decreasing Intervals and Inverse Functions Oct 25 - Oct 31 : Geometric and Arithmetic Sequences Nov 1 - Nov 7 : Exponent Rules and Exponential Functions Nov 8 - Nov 14 : Exponential Functions
Metas de aprendizaje
At the end of this course, your learner will be able to say, "I can explain functions and exponents with confidence".

Orientación para padres
Parents should make sure their learners are ready to dig deep into quadratic Algebra. The course assumes they have strong foundational skills in the following:
1) Real Numbers, Variables & Expressions
2) Order of Operations
3) Properties of Numbers
4) Distributive Properties
5) Adding & subtracting polynomials
6) Linear Functions
So if your student is at an Algebra 1 level and already has a handle on those skills that teachers reinforce at the start of the year, but wants to dig deep and MASTER quadratic algebra, this is the course for them.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students should also have a pencil, and graph paper. I would prefer that no calculator is used for this class. It is not required, but if your student would like to collaborate with the class by writing on the screen, it might be worth your while to invest in a stylus pad. These used to be expensive but are quickly becoming more affordable. I have students work through problems together. Usually the student dictates to me what they are thinking and I write their solutions on the screen real time so that the class is working together. If you student would like to do his/her own writing on the screen, these stylus pen/pad sets are a great idea!
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Fuentes
No additional sources are needed for this class. I will sometimes use problems from Khan Academy's and College Board's resource pages for Algebra. I also use the Georgia Dept of Education's free resources.

I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career.
The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores.
It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
