1-2 horas por semana. Homework is required and is consistent in every lesson. I teach to mastery and explain every problem done in class carefully. Homework will always be to go back through the recording for any concepts or problem solves that a student doesn't feel 100% clear on. Review these problems, practice them again until they become extremely clear. Doing a few problems well is far more valuable than doing many more problems without clear understanding.Evaluación
Each unit will have it's own Nearpod Assessment. Parents can take the scores of each of these assessments, average them, and use that for transcripts. Nearpod is also used for the drills (homework) which will prepare your student for the assessments. Nearpod doesn't require you to have an account - it's just a link that I'll provide. Because it's very interactive and easy to use, it's a great tool. I've designed these drills and assessments to guide your learner to mastery and I also use the drills in class. Nearpod is not a learning management system, and so, it doesn't track grades. It's the student's responsibility to provide the assessment score sheets for the parents. I make this very clear in each assessment and even give a little bit of extra credit for students agreeing to print out or take a screen shot of their score sheets and provide those to the parent. Each assessment also reminds the student that if they agree to provide it for their parents but the parents still come to me for scores, they will lose that extra credit. It's very difficult to sort through the hundreds of scores in Nearpod's system to possibly locate a student's score, so please encourage your student to be responsible. Most students are able to and these policies have worked well in past sections.Calificación

This is an Algebra 2 high school math course. Specifically, this course covers the first semester of the complete Algebra 2 course. Upon completion, learners will be ready to take the second part of this class. This is an Algebra 2 high school math course which is used for the proctored assessments for a grade as well as study sessions to prepare for the assessments. These assessments work in conjunction with my Algebra 2 content courses. A visual explanation of the flow of these courses as well as hyperlinks to the listings for more details can be found at this link: https://bit.ly/TeacherKittyAlgebra2System In this first trimester of Algebra 2, learners will learn about quadratic equations and graphs, factoring, graphing, complex and imaginary number, and laws of radical and exponents. The elements learned in first trimester will prepare the student for the second which focuses on graphing and interpreting functions, beginning with linear functions and moving on to more complex functions. It's important to understand that I teach to mastery. I will teach each concept thoroughly and take the time to address questions and make sure I assess each learner and whether they are tracking with the topics. I will be available to help students who need additional support. I will, on occasion, support a student who is struggling and has already tried slowing down the recording of the class and working towards a better understanding. The Outschool classes which provide the instruction and tutoring for this course are listed below. Session 1 L1 1.1-1.2 Functions, Interval Notation, Domain and Range Session 2 L1 2.1 Transformations Session 3 L1 2.2 Transformations Session 4 L1. 4.1 Simplify Radicals Session 5 L1 4.2 Laws of Exponents Session 6 L1 4.2 Multiplying Polynomials Session 7 L1 5.1a Factoring with GCF Session 8 L1 5.1b Trinomial Factoring Session 9 L1 5.2 Advanced Trinomial Factoring Session 10 L2 1.1-1.2 What is a polynomial and graphing a quadratic Session 11 L2 2.1 Transitioning between forms of Quadratics Session 12 2.2 Completing the Square Session 13 L2 3.1-3.2 Complex Numbers Session 14 L2 4.1 The Quadratic Formula What to expect during a study session: I will take a practice study guide for the assessment and walk through part of all of it depending on how quickly the class wants to move. What to expect during a proctored assessment: I will review the rules of the assessment before beginning the test. Students will need to have their cameras on and use only direct messages once the assessment begins. Students will need to keep a paper copy of their answers. If a student wants to use the recording to take the test on their own, they need the approval from their parents who need to send that to me through an Outschool message. Use of the recordings is a great way for parents to work with their learner using accommodations of additional time for testing. Some class policies: A - Students who are not able to make class have access to the recordings. B - The group dynamics and interaction between leaners and the teacher are critical to a successful class. If learners do not arrive in class according to Outschool's standard for a viable participation (10 minutes), I will leave the classroom, according to Outschool's policy.
Metas de aprendizaje
At the end of this trimester, learners will be able to evaluate and work with quadratic equations, factor, work with complex numbers, and apply laws of exponents and radicals.

After my career in industry as a chemical engineer and management consultant, I got my certification to teach math and business in the public schools for middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for eight years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career.
The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores.
It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
Rest assured, students finish my classes and turn to their parents and say, "I finally get it!" Here are some reviews from classes here on Outschool to show what I mean...
From CT -
Love this teacher! My kids are requesting more of her classes. Thank you teacher Kitty!
Energetic and patient teacher. I accidentally signed up my younger son with his older brother and she made the class interesting for both of them and they asked to join another class of teacher Kitty. Thank you !
From William-
Wonderful class. The class speed was just right, and our daughter was able to follow along relatively well. She benefited greatly from this opportunity to reinforce her understanding the solving quadratic equations. Thanks!!!
From Dillon-
This the second linear equation class my son took from Teacher Kitty. My son felt he learned a lot on this subject and took very useful notes, and gained a lot more confidence than when he just started learning it.
From Mary -
I am really pleased that our first lesson at Outschool was such a fantastic one. Kitty is really good and my son loved that he could understand her clearly (initially worried as he is not American or in America ) I observed that she really took her time to explain terminologies and she gave the class more time to really grasp the lesson. My shy son eventually came out of his shell and contributed to the class. We are looking forward to more classes with her.
