Welcome to this year-long Algebra class!

Embark on a mathematical journey and build the groundwork for success in algebra and beyond with this online class designed specifically for homeschoolers. Algebra 1 forms the cornerstone of high school mathematics, providing students with essential skills and concepts fundamental to understanding higher-level mathematical concepts. In this course, students will explore key algebraic topics, from solving linear equations to graphing quadratic functions, equipping them with the tools they need to excel in algebra and beyond. Students will develop a solid understanding of algebraic principles while honing their problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

After completing this course, students will have earned a high school math credit. This class is designed to prepare students for High School Geometry and Algebra 2.

Classes will be on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Classes will consist of lectures, examples, practice, and exploration. Students will be given an example or exploration activity, work with the instructor to understand problems and solve them independently. We will use various online activities (Delta Math, Google Slides, etc.) to explore many concepts so that students can have a hands-on experience before completing homework assignments. Tests will be done outside of class and will be open notes.

This class will meet twice weekly, involving students interacting with the teacher and completing weekly assignments/assessments throughout the course.

***TEXT: Students will receive printable note pages and homework sheets. It is important they come to class with the printed notes and keep all their papers organized in a 3-ring binder.

I have taught homeschooled students since 2008 and am very accommodating with student needs; parents are welcome to contact me about any issues or concerns.

***NOTE: students should attend the online meeting on a laptop or desktop computer. Mobile devices are not conducive to the online activities included in this course.***

***NOTE: Completing assignments is necessary to succeed in this class. Math builds on itself, and students must practice to retain what they learn. ***

***NOTE: We will use Google Classroom to keep assignments organized***

Here is an overview of concepts that will be learned:

--Introduction to Algebraic Concepts: Explore the fundamental principles of algebra, including variables, expressions, and equations.

--Solving Linear Equations and Inequalities: Master the techniques for solving linear equations and inequalities, including one-step, two-step, and multi-step equations.

--Graphing Linear Functions: Learn how to graph linear equations and inequalities on the coordinate plane and interpret their graphs.

--Systems of Equations and Inequalities: Investigate systems of linear equations and inequalities and learn how to solve them using various methods, such as substitution and elimination.

--Exponents and Exponential Functions: Explore the properties of exponents and exponential functions, including exponential growth and decay.

--Factoring and Quadratic Equations: Master the art of factoring quadratic expressions and solving quadratic equations using factoring, the quadratic formula, and completing the square.

--Polynomials and Polynomial Functions: Study the properties of polynomials, including degree, leading coefficients, and end behavior, and learn how to graph polynomial functions.

--Rational Expressions and Equations: Investigate rational expressions and equations, including simplifying rational expressions and solving rational equations.

--Radical Expressions and Equations: Explore radical expressions and equations, including simplifying radical expressions and solving radical equations.

--Data Analysis and Probability: Apply algebraic concepts to analyze data and solve problems involving probability and statistics.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Maestría en Educación desde Strayer University
I majored in engineering before acquiring my bachelor’s of science in Computer Science (lots of math classes!) and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education. I have 14+ years of teaching many subjects and ages; however, I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry for high school students for the past 9 years. I love teaching math and creating supplement assignments and activities to further understanding.
