Do you LOVE algebra as much as I do?! Or maybe you don't love it...and that's why you need some extra help. Either way, you're at the right place! Algebra 1 is my favorite course to teach because it is so useful in our everyday lives. In this one-on-one class, I'll help you with your homework, help you review, or even teach you the next lesson so you can get ahead in class! I also teach the course in full and can provide homeschool support. Math doesn't have to be boring, and I hope my goofy excitement about math will rub off on you a little bit! So join me and we can have tons of fun solving all kinds of problems. Making students comfortable is important, so in my class, I like to keep it relaxed and casual. I'll guide students to get the right answer and help provide scaffolding so they can develop the confidence to do it themselves. Don't understand it? Don't worry! I'll teach it to you 20 different ways until it clicks for you. If you're looking for one-on-one tutoring, reach out with times that work best for you, and I will do my best to accommodate. Hope to see you soon!

I have extensive coursework as an undergrad and graduate student in a broad range of mathematics. I have taught algebra 1 as a private course to dozens of students over the years to allow them to test out of the class and advance themselves in school, but I've also helped teach the course to students who are struggling.

Why, hello! Welcome to my classroom. Let me introduce myself. I am Melissa, teacher extraordinaire. With more than 17 years of teaching under my belt, you'll be sure to get the best and easiest methods for learning whatever it is you've come for!
My teaching background began with SAT/ACT/SSAT test prep 17 years ago, but it soon expanded to many subjects where I found myself teaching students around the world from elementary to post-university level. Nearly two decades of tutoring has allowed me to become a highly-skilled teacher in math, writing, test prep, and more. I have taught countless students (literally thousands!) primarily in math, English, government, political science, business, and ESL, with students from elementary to university level both in-person and online.
I hold a B.A. in politics and M.A. in comparative politics, both of which have extensive qualitative and quantitative work. I also acted as a research assistant during my Master's program. Since then, I've been teaching online so I can travel, but mostly now as an excellent way to connect with students during the pandemic.
Having lived in several countries, I love traveling and learning new things. Painting and music are also huge interests of mine.
As for my teaching style, it's all about making the student get engaged and have that "aha!" moment. I work hard to engage my students, and I love it when they get excited about learning!
Don't understand something? Don't worry. I can explain it 20 different ways until we find the one that works best for your learning style. Plus, I know a ton of easy tips and tricks to take the headache out of studying. The easiest way is often the best way, right?
Come visit my classroom for a relaxing, fun way to learn without the snore, the bore, or the pressure! If you don't see a time that works for you, message me and I will do my best to accommodate you.
