3 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will work on second grade sight words for three different days. Students will participate in spelling games in whole group and partner format. They will complete activities during class time and be given optional activities to complete outside of class time. They can bring and share these optional activities to the following class so we can support their motivation! Day 1: Students will be introduced to the sight word list. They will be asked to read, say and write the words in a group and independently. They will be taught how to fold a paper and write their sight words on the paper. They can then use the paper to practice seeing, saying and spelling on their own. Day 2: Students will recall the sight words used from day 1. We will play a game of bingo with word boards that we create in class by drawing grids on a piece of paper and choosing words to write in each square. Students will need to spell and say words correctly in order to win. Day 3: Students will write down all the words we have used in an artistic way (using many colors to write the word, or forming a stair case to write the word). Day 4: Students will play charades with their sight words! We will take turns trying to "act out" the word or "act out" the letters of the words until another classmate can guess the word (letters may not be in order)!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to recall and use sight words at their current reading level. By increasing sight word knowledge, they will also improve their daily reading ability.
