1 hour per week. Students are encouraged to practice using each of these words weekly through either the worksheet provided in the classroom, and/or the interactive online game.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 3
Hello, My philosophy on teaching spelling is that if students read, say, and write each word, this helps them to remember these words and how to spell them. It is important for students to have all three ways of practicing in order to get all of their senses involved, which then helps them to better remember. Please be sure your students have a working microphone and paper and pencil to write with and on at the beginning of each class. In this class students will be learning a list of words, practicing reading, writing and spelling them. This class will be a weekly lesson with different list words each week for the grade level. Students will in class learn how to say each word, how to spell each word and complete an activity to help understand the definition of each of these list words. At the end of class students will play an interactive game online using nearpod.com, blooket.com, khaoot.it, gimkit.comt with that week's list words for students to get further practice with each word from that week’s list. Learning through gaming is a proven method in teaching. Today's kids love games on devices, and one of the best ways to help kids continue to learn is to let them do what they love while they learn. Each of these games require students to answer questions picking out the correct spelling for each of the list words for that week, they will not advance/win the game without doing this. These types of games are considered learning games, because the student is required to answer learning questions to advance in the game. Students are encouraged to have another device (computer, tablet, phone) to play this game on so they are able to see the teachers screen with the scores and the game on their other device, but you can play it on the same device you are in the classroom with. Students are required to bring paper and pencil to each class so they are able to write down each list word one time. Class will start on time, so please be on time, or you will miss the list words for this week. List words are only given at the beginning of each class, they will not be given ahead of time. This eliminates the issue of some students not having a printer, didn’t see the post with the words, and or didn’t practice. This allows each student to start at the same spot at the beginning of each class. After class, the teacher will post in the classroom an attachment with a worksheet with that week's spelling words, and a link and code for the games listed above with that week's list words for the student to use to practice throughout the week. Students are encouraged to practice the words during the week because this will improve their spelling skills and help them be better prepared for the following week's list. Students will be playing online games where they will have to spell the weekly words correctly to win the game. The website we will use for this are nearpod.com, Kahoot.it, and Blooket.com. All game links and codes will be giving in class. No email needed.
Supply List
Paper and Pencil/Marker.... to write spelling words At the end of each class, we will play an interactive game on the website nearpod.com. It is best if the student has an alternate device from the one they are in the outschool classroom on, open a browser, and load this website. I am veteran homeschool mom of 20+ years. I also have a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology. I believe through reading, writing, and spelling aloud, students will better remember how to spell words, and practicing weekly will help them become better spellers. I believe each student learns differently so by providing several different ways for students to practice their spelling is a goal I include in each of my classes. I try to also use patience and go at the speed of each student with all of my classes.
