Some kids could use some extra help or a confidence boost outside of school. Parents and classroom teachers can often help make a difference in those kids’ lives. But sometimes it’s helpful to have someone else step in: someone who is not already as much a part of your child’s everyday life. In many cases, this is a mentor—someone who can offer guidance, build confidence, and be a friend to your child. With that said, in this class, I will play more of a “mentor” role versus my typical teacher role. For kids with ADHD who learn and think differently, it can be especially helpful to have a mentor who knows what it feels like to grow up with the same challenges. I bring a rare perspective to the table due to the fact that I've been a student with ADHD as well as a teacher of students with ADHD.

I will be open about my journey with ADHD and strategies that did, and didn’t, work for me over the years. I didn’t let ADHD prevent me from achieving my goals, and I’m here to be sure it doesn’t get in the way of your child’s goals, either!

This is a unique course in the sense that this class is solely centered around one thing: the learner. My role in this class is to provide support and advice, create a safe, judgment-free space, help build an ADHD toolbox of strategies personalized to your child, and, most importantly, to show your learner that they’re not alone; that I, too, have ADHD and know firsthand just how challenging it can be at times whether that be at school, at home, or with friends.

Parents will receive a survey prior to the class meeting where they will be invited to share their child's challenges in the areas of executive function, note taking and study skills in order to identify an area of focus for the session.

During our 1:1 class sessions, some topics that may be discussed include:
📌 Impulse control
📌 Feeling overwhelmed
📌 Benefits of ADHD
📌 What is ADHD?
📌 How to communicate effectively with others
📌 Goal setting
📌 Study skills and tips
📌 Time management
📌 Conflict resolution
📌 Self care
📌 Building an ADHD toolbox
📌 Notetaking strategies
📌 Prioritization

In this 30 minute weekly class, often we may build off the energy of the class and change the discussion as questions and ideas come up. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their struggles and their triumphs as they navigate a world living with ADHD. The 1:1 class environment will allow the class meeting to feel safe as well as give the learner and myself the opportunity to build a strong relationship.

Upon enrollment, students will also be provided with a free digital PDF copy of The ADHD Workbook for Kids as well as access to a Google Drive that will have countless activities and resources for both parents and learners.

“For me, anyway, having ADHD is like walking one step in front of a rain cloud, two steps in front of a thunderstorm [and], three steps in front of a tornado. Forgetting things, making careless errors, being confused. … these things can create havoc! The important thing I’ve learned is to accept errors as quickly as I can, remedy the situation, issue an apology as needed…. and keep moving forward. After all, the sky is clear and the sun is shining up ahead!” – Author Unknown

Hello! My name is Ms. Jane Elieff and I am a certified elementary school teacher who is eager to help your child with reading and math. I strive to provide students with a solid foundation for lifelong learning. I am dedicated to remaining flexible, ensuring that every child’s learning styles and abilities are addressed.

⭐ Teaching Experience ⭐
I have over 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of learning environments, age ranges, and subjects (Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science). I have taught in Self Contained classrooms (all subjects) as well as a Departmentalized Classroom where I specifically taught 5th grade math. I am a certified Elementary Educator and my certification covers all subjects K - 6 which gives me a great range of ages and subjects that I can confidently work with! Throughout my experience, I have honed my communication, creativity, and motivational skills and have consistently sparked improved self-confidence and success in my students. In addition, I also was a member of a professional math committee that met regularly, shared expertise, and worked collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.

✅ Ability to remain flexible, ensuring that every child's learning styles and abilities are addressed.
✅ Designing and delivering learning opportunities that implement best practices to increase decoding, comprehension and fluency.
✅ Monitoring student progress through running records, miscue analysis, DRA testing, fluency assessments and anecdotal observations.
✅ Utilizing several teaching methods and techniques to guarantee the solid understanding of concepts introduced and taught.

⭐ Teaching Philosophy ⭐
I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. I am very patient, flexible and kind. I encourage my students to ask questions, take risks and overcome the fear of making mistakes as this is part of the learning process. All levels are welcome (we will start from scratch if need be).

⭐ Hobbies ⭐
In my free time I enjoy reading, looking for shark teeth (I currently have a collection of more than 10,000 teeth!), and photography. I live on Folly Beach and my favorite shots to shoot are of surfers here on the island. Surf photography is a huge passion of mine! I also love my pups, Jessie and Remi. They're both Chocolate Labs. My biggest passion and focus right now is my nonprofit, Project Z of the Lowcountry where we provide beds to children who don't have a bed of their own at home. It feels odd to be out of the classroom but doing Project Z full time has been such a blessing! I hope to connect with you and your family so that I can get a little teaching back in my life. I'll always be a teacher at heart!
