Class experience

Students will develop an appreciation of the world around them while simultaneously learning amazing facts.
I have spent the past 28-years serving students and their families in public education. As a former elementary school teacher and now principal, the love of teaching and learning is at my core. Throughout my teaching and administrative career, I have learned that students are less likely to learn if they are not 1) engaged, 2) motivated, and 3) comfortable with the teacher. I build all of those aspects into my classes. Through engaging content, positive motivation, and building a relationship with students through interactive discussion, I promote student success, and students demonstrate growth.

As a passionate K-8 certified educator, I teach a variety of courses for both elementary and middle school. My courses will vary from covering curricular skills in language arts, math, science, and social studies to occasionally a bit of just FUN!

I have had the privilege of teaching in both the state of Virginia and Michigan and have served in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, literacy specialist, math coach, and now administrator. In addition to my elementary and secondary experience, I currently teach post-secondary as I prepare college students to go into the classroom to teach literacy. I also have over two years of experience teaching on-line. Within each of those roles, I have worked with a variety of students to include English as a Second Language, students with disabilities, and students who are reluctant to learn. Within all of my classes, I work toward fostering an environment of differentiated instruction and innovative experiences.

Personally, I enjoy spending time with my two daughters! One of my daughters is at Dartmouth College and the other is in her last year of middle school. I also enjoy spending time with our cat, Georgia, and our dog, Kentucky.

I look forward to working with your child and providing you with the feedback necessary to help him/her continue to grow on the journey to learning!
