Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 4
During class, learners will engage in a variety of writing. In a one on one setting, learners will be introduced to the writing process through different types of writing, have some writing time, share their writing with me, and receive positive feedback and writing tips!

Class will begin with an icebreaker and be introduced to the prompt. We will brainstorm ideas and complete a plan for our writing.

Then, we will have a mini lesson and draft our writing.

If time allows, we will practice editing and revising our work, sharing our work, and discussing Glows (what we did well) and Grows (something we can improve).

Learners will write about a wide variety of topics, such as fun seasonal writing, building self confidence, descriptions, opinions, and picture prompts! Learners will write stories, information, and persuasive! This class is wonderful for both the reluctant writer and the child who loves to write. If learners run into "writer's block", we have a quick conversation about the prompt and that will help them get their thoughts on paper.

Fall 2022 - All prompts are OPTIONAL. Learners may write in any mode and about any topic that sparks their interest. The goal is for them to find their voice and that is best done by writing about topics that are important to them.

Hello! I am Kristen Galloway. I am a curious life long learner, and I want to share my love of learning with others! I am passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and relevant. I want to meet each child where they are developmentally and be a part of their journey of discovery. With a background in general education, I love to teach lessons that incorporate reading, writing, math, science, social studies. Learners should feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom. I think it is important to make learning a personal experience for each learner. I encourage each student to share their thinking. I work create a space where learners feel comfortable to learn. In order for every child to flourish they need to be seen, heard, and loved.

I believe in building relationships with my students and making learning engaging and connected to their lives. I use a multi-sensory approach to learning. I incorporate multiple domains throughout my lessons. I love to have fun in the classroom through conversations, games, and hands-on learning.

I have a Bachelor's of Science and a Master of Arts in Education. I have my TEFL and TESOL certifications. For the past 14 years, I have taught every grade from PreK-4th grade, sponsored a 3rd-5th grade STREAM club and a K-5 book club. I have also taught English online since 2019.

I have a 21 year old daughter, a 7 year old son, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and an axolotl. In my spare time, I love to read, play card and board games, hike, and watch movies. We love to travel and explore, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination!
