Students will focus on the long vowel sound made with vowel teams (ee, ea, oa, oe, ai, ay, ie) compared to long vowels made with a silent e (ex bike). The students will play a game using long vowels where they will have to determine if the word looks more familiar as a vowel team word or a silent e word, using tricks taught by the teacher. The students will have the opportunity to write their own sentences and edit for long vowel words using a checklist compiled during the class.
Learning Goals
Students will improve the spelling of their long vowel words.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
I am a teacher from eastern Long Island, NY where I grew up on our family farm. I have 2 young boys who are on a homeschool adventure with us and a little sister joined our adventure recently too!
I have been teaching for 20 years as a classroom teacher, a private tutor, a homeschool mom and now I also own and run my own outdoor preschool. I specialize in multi-sensory teaching of foundational skills in math, reading and writing so I am excited to offer classes on number sense from early childhood to middle school levels, early reading skills as well as advanced reading skills and writing and phonics conventions.
I believe that the most important piece in learning something new or strengthening an area of need is to develop self-motivation and awareness of yourself as a learner so that you can take ownership of the skills you have acquired. The more memorable and fun the learning experience, the longer it sticks with you to become something you can teach others and that's the goal!
