Starting with a casual assessment to see where the student currently is with their spelling knowledge, the class will cater to the individual student. The class will include strategies for memorizing non-decodable words (words you CAN'T sound out) and understanding patterns in decodable words (words you CAN sound out). Some strategies include singing the spelling, using unique materials to write the words, movement as they spell, and others. Student progress will depend on regular practice outside of class time as well as regular attendance in class.

I am a teacher from eastern Long Island, NY where I grew up on our family farm. I have 2 young boys who are on a homeschool adventure with us and a little sister joined our adventure recently too!
I have been teaching for 20 years as a classroom teacher, a private tutor, a homeschool mom and now I also own and run my own outdoor preschool. I specialize in multi-sensory teaching of foundational skills in math, reading and writing so I am excited to offer classes on number sense from early childhood to middle school levels, early reading skills as well as advanced reading skills and writing and phonics conventions.
I believe that the most important piece in learning something new or strengthening an area of need is to develop self-motivation and awareness of yourself as a learner so that you can take ownership of the skills you have acquired.
