Let's Decode: Vowel Teams & R-Controlled Vowels - 1st & 2nd Grade #phonics
In this weekly class, learners will use phonemic awareness and phonics skills to practice reading vowel team and r-controlled words. **Learners can join at any time during the 12 weeks, since lessons do not build on prior lessons.

Beginner Level
This class will introduce a variety of vowel team & r-controlled words. Through colorful digital slides, learners will practice blending, segmenting and spelling words, and reading sentences using words with the weekly pattern(s). Vowel Teams & R-Controlled Vowel Order of Lessons: Week of April 27th-Lesson 1: -ai & -ay Week of May 4th-Lesson 2: -ee & -ea Week of May 11th-Lesson 3: -oa & -ow Week of May 18th-Lesson 4: -igh & y Week of May 25th- no lesson Memorial Day Week of June 1st-Lesson 5: -ew, -ue, & -ui Week of June 8th-Lesson 6:-au & -aw Week of June 15th-Lesson 7: -ou & -ow Week of June 22nd-Lesson 8: -oi & -oy Week of June 29th-Lesson 9: -ar Week of July 6th-Lesson 10: -or Week of July 13th-Lesson 11: -ir, -ur, -er Week of July 20th-Lesson 12-mixed -ar, -or, -ir, -ur, and -er ***After Lesson 12, lessons will begin again at Lesson 1 (cycle repeats)*** 📚A example lesson may look like this: (lessons may vary week to week) -Welcome to all learners -introduction of the lesson's pattern(s) and sound(s) -change the beginning sound -Let's Blend -Mystery Picture -Let's Spell -sentence reading/find the rhyme **After each class, learners will be provided with practice worksheets that they can complete, at home, for extra practice.
Learning Goals
Learners will apply phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.Learners will manipulate individual sounds in single-syllable spoken words.

Pre-Requisites
Learners should have good phonemic awareness before beginning this class and have already mastered reading CVC words.
Supply List
Learners will not need any additional materials for this class, other than their computer, laptop, or iPad. They may bring a white board (or paper and markers), but it is not necessary. Review activities (worksheets) will be sent to learners after class for additional practice-these, however, are not required to be completed.
