US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
If your child has a strong grasp of short vowel words, and is growing in their reading abilities, then this will be a great fit to build skills and confidence on their reading journey. Each class includes: *A song to introduce the week’s word family *Many colorful slides to keep the class engaged *Multiple turns for each student and whole-class participation *A brief "story", with pictures, they may listen to and read to search for words from our family *Time to build, blend, and read words from the family *"Brain Break" time for a bit of movement and enhanced focus. *A chance to practice writing and filling-in letters to make our words (Optional worksheets are provided, or they may “air write”, write on a whiteboard or on their own paper.) We will also reinforce the concepts of how to create the long vowels in our words. *Games to help students discriminate between words both in and out of our family and games of sorting short and long vowel words. *Optional time to "share or tell" one thing after each class, for some community-building fun. Class topic examples are: (12/06/23): "i-e" Word Family (12/13/23): "o-e" Word Family (12/20/23)-: "u-e" Word Family (01/03/24) : "ai" Word Family .....we will continue through with more vowel families (examples below) so the class does not end after 4 weeks.:)) **Please know that different class sections may be on different long vowels, so you may reach-out to find out the topic of the specific time that interests you.** Word Families we study may include: a-e, i-e, o-e, u-e, ai, ay, ea, ee, ie (and many more!) We may also share a few blends as we go. Your child may join in at any time, as we will be working on a new word family each week until we have completed them all and will then begin again with "a-e".**

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Hanover College
For 23 years I was a 3-6 Montessori teacher and I was able to guide children from sound acquisition through word building, reading, writing, and beyond. I love to integrate songs, games and a bit of silliness into my classes to make learning fun. I let the children know that "mistakes are how you learn" and that they should never be afraid to try!
