Class Experience

WELCOME, Warriors Animators and Artists!!

***BEFORE JOINING THIS CLASS***
- This is a social drawing club; each week I will give the class a drawing prompt, and the clan will be encouraged to practice their personal art style and animation skills and use different shapes to create unique character design. We will also do animation prompts for practice! Like practicing a cat run cycle, walk cycle, eye blink, and more.
- Your learner MUST know the basics of digital art and their program of choice! This is for animators/artists to practice their drawing skills, NOT how to use their art program. Although, anyone is welcome to ask the group questions about a program if they arise!

New members will be given two "introductory videos" to watch that show how to draw a basic cat head and feline anatomy; they will learn to draw the cat's faces in 3/4's view, how to draw feline anatomy using the 'bean' method. During class, students will be given a weekly prompt to work on in class, and are encouraged to develop their OWN artistic drawing style during this process. I will give some direction to the creative prompt and teach any new techniques the students may need to know. Then, as we draw, students are encouraged to discuss their favorite books and characters from the series. Students are also encouraged to work on developing their art style in their own time and sharing them with me and the class during class time. This class is meant to be a place for young aspiring animators/artists to grow in a Warrior's Art Community, and its purpose is to be a welcoming community centered around sharing our accomplishments, creations, and improving our personal art skills and goals together. We practice and grow our drawing and animation skills through supporting each other, learning new tools, and enjoying art and Warrior's related conversation.

NOTE: This class is mainly centered around Art Sharing; students will have the opportunity to share their latest drawings and characters while we draw the prompt! This is a very social class, and we enjoy the community just as much as the art sharing, and art practicing! It's a great place for young artists to be inspired by their peers and grow together in a close-knit community of fellow learning and growing artists.

CLASS STRUCTURE: Typical class meetings are now usually structured this way:
1. Welcoming new warriors (if any)
2. Introducing the weekly drawing prompt as I talk a little bit about how to begin the drawing/animation, and then students are encouraged to use and develop their own drawing style.
3. We will go around the room to each 'clan member' as they share their latest characters and artwork.
4. We inspire each other and grow together as an artist community, and clan!

This class is STUDENT-LED; which means the drawing topics are dictated by what the learners would like to draw next. Each week a vote thread is posted in the classroom page where students can suggest what we draw the next week.

I will be using Photoshop to create our digital art, but it is not required!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- A digital art program, such as Sketchbook, Ibis Paint, Fire Alpaca, or Photoshop, and have a general understanding of the tools. (If a student would like to use Procreate, they are welcome if they are familiar with the tools)
- A drawing tablet or iPad (Ask me if you are shopping for something and need suggestions!)
- Flip-a-Clip or an animation program that they are used to using.

Hello! My name is Michelina Leonard, but I go by Ms. Mickey in my classes!

I'm a digital illustrator and designer, known best for my love of animals and how they inspire my work. Raised in Pennsylvania, I live in the country with my menagerie of parrots, goats, chickens, and cats. I have a college education in digital art and have professional work experience in the field, including graphic/logo design, children's book illustration, novel cover design, studio painting, 2D animation, and more.

My most popular classes are my Warrior Cat's Clubs, where learners get to enjoy connecting with other fans of the book series, learning art techniques, sharing their creative work, and role-playing with their 'clan'. I teach traditional basic drawing techniques, along with digital art and animation. Most importantly, though, students get to share their characters and showcase their artwork!

Drawing "battle cats" isn't my only topic of interest, though! I also have a Dragon Drawing Club (for Wings of Fire fans), an Original Character Club, where we draw and discuss ALL types of OCs!

I like to keep my classes social and interactive! I structure my classes in a way that fosters a community within the group, and I am driven to ensure that every student feels valued and welcomed in the classroom. My favorite part is that learners get to connect and inspire each other to improve, rather than just listening to me give a weekly lecture. The artwork skill improvement that I've seen in many of my students within this group enviroment has been astronomical and a joy to witness!

I hope to see your learners in my classes!
