Valentine's Day Party - All About the Heart; Beyond the Craft

In this one-time Valentine's Day party with certified teacher Mr. Lipton, students will learn all about the human heart, make a Valentine craft, sing songs, learn about feelings of the heart (being kind and helpful), & the history of candy! Students will: -Celebrate friendship through songs, original stories, and making friendship hearts. -Make an accordion heart. -Learn fun facts about the human heart and explore a diagram of the heart. -Learn a little bit of math related to hearts (symmetry and congruence). -Think about ways that we can be kind and helpful to others, and strategies for problem solving with friends. -Learn about the history of candy -Share our favorite Valentine’s Day traditions and candies. -End with a Valentine’s Day freeze dance party! Cameras must be on for the entirety of the class, and students on camera. All learners must be enrolled students; if two learners are sharing a device, both learners must be enrolled per Outschool policies. Teacher expertise and credentials
Daniel Lipton is a second grade teacher in Brookline, Massachusetts. Daniel has been teaching second grade for more than 18 years. Mr. Lipton has a Master's in Reading Education, a Master's in Education Administration, and a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Daniel is certified as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, math specialist, and principal/vice principal in the state of Massachusetts. He loves writing children's musicals and runs a summer theater camp. Mr. Lipton also works with students in preK-8 in various after school programs. Mr. Lipton’s passions are integrating curriculum and incorporating the arts into his teaching. Mr. Lipton was a finalist for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year in 2015. Mr. Lipton has two sons and he is very excited to work with SEG to teach several classes! Mr. Lipton also has two betta fish and a turtle, and despite his sons' protests, loves singing songs from Frozen all the time!!
