Class Experience

Calling all artists, crafters, and makers! Share your creations with makers from many different places, hear about what they're making, and have dedicated time to work on your current project in this weekly class! (Some project ideas: Painting, sculpting, Lego, handicrafts like knitting, embroidery, cross-stitch, paper crafts, card making, fairy house construction, jewelry making, drawing, coloring, etc. If you're unsure whether the project you're thinking of will work in this class, please send me a message.)

During the show and share portion of class you can share something that you made and take questions and comments about your creation. You'll also get to hear about what other students are making and talk to them about their projects. After talking about your creations, you'll have time to work on your latest project! (Make sure to have your supplies ready before class starts, so you can spend the whole "Make it!" time working on your creation.) During the working portion of class students are welcome to chat while they work.

**Some students enjoy this class so much they have been enrolled for more than a year!**

Class format:
Greetings (about 5 minutes)- Say hello to each other, allow time for students to join, introduce ourselves to new students
Show and share (about 20 minutes)- Students will take turns showing their creations, telling us about them, and taking questions or comments from the group.
Make it! (about 20 minutes)- Work on the project of your choice. You can chat about your projects during this time, too. I'll play some quiet instrumental music while we work.
Wrap up (about 10 minutes)- Show us what you did during class, tell what you want to do next, or share a challenge or a success you had while you worked.

*If you would like me to offer this class at a different time, please send a request. I use parent requests to help schedule my classes and will do my best to accommodate you.
Learning Goals
Students will become a community of makers who:
- communicate clearly about their own work
- make respectful comments about the work of others
- ask questions that require more than a yes or no answer

I believe that children are the world's best learners! When they are motivated by a genuine interest in something, they are super focused and there is no stopping them. My classes are student centered and, therefore, build on each student's background knowledge, strengths, and needs. My goal is to always create a learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and can practice taking risks in a safe environment.

In 2007 I earned a Master of Arts degree in teaching and highly qualified teacher status in my home state where I am licensed to teach kindergarten through sixth grade. Since finishing my degree I have taught all grades K-6 in various capacities. I have taught all subjects and particularly love guiding children as they deepen their appreciation for books. For the past six years I have worked as a math specialist, teaching both grade level math classes and math intervention.

When I'm not teaching I love to travel, spend time with my family, read, write, swim, and cuddle with my adorable cat, Jake. Every November I participate in National Novel Writing Month, the goal of which is to write an entire 50,000 novel from scratch by the end of the month. In my six years of participation I have met that goal twice! Whether I write 50,000 words or not, it's a great way to relieve stress and stay motivated to write.
