Hello and Welcome: Just a side note before starting -> I must have at least 3 students enrolled before starting this class. I apologize for any inconvenience. This Introductory United States Geography & History class will help younger learners understand important facts and basic history about the States in America. It will cover things such as: -> Capitals -> State Birds, Flowers, Trees, and Nicknames -> State Flag History -> People, Places, History, and Customs that make the State unique -> Popular Tourism Attractions including the one's for Children -> Other fascinating details and fun facts in this 50 States course. Class will start out covering from the letter “A” States and go through the Alphabet. Between one and three states are covered per day. This is a very interactive class so one of my main rules is that the learners camera and audio MUST BE ON at all times or parents/guardians will be contacted. This class will be structured by lecture, interaction among everyone, fun facts and activities. Learners will receive the next day power points via the Classroom so please make sure they either have them printed out or that they have them pulled up on the computer during class time. There will also be a verbal quiz after each state. Here is a brief example of a class topic: Lets talk about Arkansas. The reason I am going to talk about this state is because it is my home state. Arkansas Is in the south and was the 25th State to enter the union and was purchased as part of the Louisiana Purchase as a separate territory back in 1819 and then achieved statehood and became an official state in 1836. The capital of Arkansas is Little Rock, which is also the largest populated city with almost 200,000 people residing there. Arkansas is also the home of the largest point of the U.S. Interior Highlands and that Is Mount Magazine located in Logan County in Western Arkansas. There is a hiking trail called Signal Hill that actually takes you to the highest point of the mountain and that is right at 2,753 feet above sea level. Arkansas is the nation’s leading producer of rice and poultry and grows nearly every crop produced in the United States with the exception of citrus fruits. This will be a very informative course for students and at the end, almost all students leave with not only several states they are fans of, but they also beg their parents to plan a visit too. I am including both, a weekly and a summer schedule of classes below. Here is a WEEKLY breakdown of the fifty States we will cover in alphabetical order: Week 1 - Introductions & States A-C Week 2 - States D-H Week 3 - States I-L Week 4 - All the "M" States Week 5 - All the "N" States Week 6 - States O-S Week 7 - States T-V Week 8 - All the "W" States Here is the 2024 SUMMER schedule of the fifty States we will cover below. This will be a 5-week course covered 3-days per week for 1-hour each day, in alphabetical order: Week 1 - Introductions & A-D States Week 2 - F-L States Week 3 - M-N States Week 4 - O-T States Week 5 - U-W States *********ATTENTION ADULTS********** Due to Outschool's policy, Adults will not be allowed on camera during class unless there is technical problems, walking through, etc. Adults may sit off camera during class. Bachelor's Degree from Liberty University
Hello everyone, my name is Lance Davis and my students call me “Mr. D”. I am happily married and have 3-boys including a set of twins. I have an Associate of Applied Science degree along with a Bachelor of Science degree both in Criminal Justice that I received from Liberty University.
I was a full-time police officer for eighteen years until I decided to pursue my 2nd career of teaching, which I have done the last 8-years now. I didn't go very far from law enforcement as I am still certified and working as the School Resource Officer in the same building as I teach in.
I have several passions other than teaching, which are: (1) Sports ⚾️ 🏈 🏀 and collecting Sports Cards since I was 11-years old, (2) Educating students and adults on financial issues (I received certification as a Certified Financial Master Coach through Ramsey Solutions) and (3) Being outdoors and enjoying family time on our farm.
I have some parents ask me my teaching style and the best way I can explain it is this, I love to be thorough and make sure my students understand what I teach them, I also add humor in my teaching, which in turn almost always gets a positive reaction from my students.
I don’t mean to offend anyone but a couple of my strict policies on Outschool is this: If you sign up for one of my classes and then fail to attend with no warning, or even let me know before class or just after the class, I have a NO REFUND POLICY, so please don't ask to transfer your students to another class 2-weeks later because you forgot or there was an emergency and you just thought about messaging me now. The same goes if you attend any part of my class, then I will not issue a refund because you were there and always have the option to watch the recording. If you aren't going to make it to class and need to transfer to another time, message me and let me know at least 8-hours before class starts and we will work something out. I have been burned too many times before with false excuses and this is time I set aside for a particular class. If you miss a class you signed up for, you are welcome to pay for that class once again, and attend. I really don’t mean for this to sound stern, but unfortunately, for a few, I have to be.
I am blessed to be able to enjoy both of the careers I set out to do at an early age and my hope for you in considering my classes is to learn and enjoy my classes as much as I love to teach them. Thank you for considering one or more of the variety of classes I have to choose from, and as always, if you ever have questions, please feel free to ask. See you in the Classroom :)
