Homework
1-2 hours per week. No reading is required. Students should begin to work on the one-page teacher supplied graphic organizer before coming to class.
Assessment
Informal assessment will occur throughout the crash course study session and will drive the discussion through the highlights of the content.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This is a two-hour study of Human Geography designed to be a crash course to review. I will provide students with a one-page graphic organizer upon enrollment that reviews the 7 AP Human Geography Units.  During our time together, we will discuss the topics, draw connections with the units, and develop critical thinking skills. Students should be able to discuss the AP Human Geography coursework learned throughout the year in their high school setting.  We will encourage use of content related examples, free response style answers, and give test-taking strategies to improve student scores on the AP Human Geography exam. This is designed to be a fast and furious review that hits the highlights of  the course.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to draw connections, use examples, and apply human geography terminology between the various units AP Human Geography units of study.  

Students will improve essay writing through identified strategies and explanations of course content.

Parental Guidance
This course includes discussion on anti and pro-natal government policies, as well as, ethnic conflict. As this is a crash course in the topic discussion we will not debate how and why, but look at what they are and their importance within the curriculum. If a student has taken the formal AP Human Geography course, these topics have already been discussed in class and will be touched on quickly in our time together.

I have taught this AP course in a public high school in the south for 9 years.  It is part of the designed Advanced Placement curriculum and I have been trained through the College Board on how to best handle these sensitive topics. I am a certified Advanced Placement Human Geography teacher on my valid SC teaching license and National Board Certified for Young Adolescents in Social Studies. I have also been an Advanced Placement Human Geography Reader for the past 6 years where these topics have been tested on the examination and I have scored.
