That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.” ― Octavia E. Butler The above said quote pretty much states what our class is going be like. This class will help children to pen down their thoughts through various sessions such as The mini lesson, Independent writing time, Writing conferences, Closing and sharing time over the course of five weeks. Week 1: Our first session will be aimed at writing an informal letter where in the art of writing a letter will be discussed in detail. Samples of letters will be shown and a discussion will follow where in the students understand the essentials of a letter. Together we will also work towards writing a letter and those interested will be given a chance to share it in the class. Week 2: Next we move on to writing a story. During this session we will discussing some famous authors like J.K Rowling, Enid Blyton etc and how they have created interesting stories. The essential elements of story writing will be discussed. Each student will then be given time to build a story and then share it with the class. Week 3: This session will be dedicated towards descriptive writing. A product like a doll or a chocolate will be shown and kids will be encouraged to write a paragraph detailing about the product. Kids are encouraged to express themselves through writing. I will also be reading out a piece of my descriptive writing and the kids will be encouraged to guess what the product is. Week 4: This session will be dedicated towards diary writing. We will discuss the benefits of writing a diary and also discuss about Diary of a wimpy kid, owl diaries etc. The joy of writing and recording events will be discussed in detail. Week 5: Our last class will aim towards building a poster. A topic will be given and students will engage themselves in creating an attractive poster. Use of correct words, writing them in the correct font that would catch the attention of the reader etc will be discussed in detail. Each student will be given a chance to showcase their work in the class. This class is best suited for anybody who has a basic sentence construction knowledge and is passionate about penning down their thoughts. No previous knowledge of writing is required as each class will have a detailed discussion of the process of writing. We will also be working on common grammar rules, punctuation, structured way for putting down the thoughts and vocabulary.
Learning Goals
Students will see an ease in expressing themselves in writing. Various forms of writing sessions will encourage them to explore many more ways to boost their writing and express themselves in a better way.
