Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 11
This is a 50 minute 1 on 1 class intended to meet twice a week for 6 weeks. It is designed to be an environment where students in grades 6 thru 9 can feel comfortable to explore their own ideas, build skill and confidence, and create their own short story through collaboration, guidance, and encouragement.

In each session, we will discuss:
       * The elements of creative writing
       * Plot structure and character development
       * Examples of literary devices used by other authors such as
               -imagery
               -metaphors and similes
               -personification
               - allusions

               -irony
               - foreshadowing and suspense.
               - precision of language and use of synonyms
Once students have begun writing their story, we will also discuss grammar and mechanics (based on student's writing). Some possible topics would include:
               - proper placement of commas
               - fragments and run-ons
               - clarity of pronouns and their antecedents

In between sessions, students will be expected to add to their stories and make revisions which will be discussed in the following session.
