In this 8-week creative writing course, learners will write a complete creative narrative story by learning how to write the main parts of their creative writing story, then put the story in their own storybook.

8 lessons//8 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Types of Writing and Story Plot
Learners will be introduced to the different types of writing and begin brainstorming ideas for their narrative writing story. They will learn about the parts of a story and create a story plot of the events in their story.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Story Beginnings
Learners will learn how to write an entertaining beginning that draws the reader in. They will create a beginning for their story.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Descriptive Detail
Learners will learn how to use descriptive detail in their writing to allow the reader to experience what the characters are experiencing. They will create a descriptive paragraph for a character, setting, or object in their story.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Building Suspense
Learners will learn how to build suspense in their writing to keep the reader engaged. They will write a paragraph using suspense-building techniques for their story.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Establishing a Main Event
Learners will learn how to incorporate description, dialogue, thoughts, and feelings into their writing and "show" instead of "tell." Learners will use these skills to write about the main event/climax of their story.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Story Endings
Learners will learn how to create strong endings that leave the reader satisfied with their story. They will write a paragraph to use as the end of their story.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Revising and Editing
Learners will learn how to properly revise and edit. Learners will use this week to complete their rough drafts, adding any parts of their story not yet covered, then revise and edit their draft.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Story Presentation
Learners will create a storybook for their story with pictures using a book creator program, which will be viewable to their peers who have also taken the class. These books can be printed into hard copies or shared digitally with family and friends if desired.
  • Learners will improve their writing skills by completing a creative narrative writing paper.
