US Grade 4 - 7
In this six week small group class, students will learn fraction basics, and then we will move into everything else they need to know about them. We will answer the following questions: What is a fraction? How do we compare a fraction to a whole number? How do we compare fractions to each other? We will work on finding the LCM (least common multiple), the GCF (greatest common factor), and common denominators. We will talk about the WHY and the HOW of fractions. I love to engage students in the conversation, and will do my best to encourage even the most shy students to join in the discussion with us. This class is great for kids who have little to no fraction knowledge, or for kids who have been struggling and need a refresher course. We will cover it all! We will play a fun Kahoot game once a week for review! Week 1 ~ Fraction Basics: What is a fraction? What is a numerator? What is a denominator? How do we compare fractions? What are multiples and factors? How do we reduce fractions? Week 2 ~ Adding Fractions (Including looking at the denominators; do we need to find a common denominator? If so, how do we do that?) Week 3 ~ Subtracting Fractions Week 4 ~ Multiplying Fractions Week 5 ~ Dividing Fractions Week 6 ~ Fraction Review ~We will play a comprehensive Kahoot game during our review week!~
Learning Goals
Students will learn what a fraction is, how to compare a fraction to a whole number, and how to compare simple fractions to each other. They will learn about factors, multiples, and why common denominators are needed in addition and subtraction. They will learn how to multiply and divide fractions. They will also learn about simplifying/reducing fractions. This is a one stop fraction course for kids!

Supply List
Paper and pencil. Magnetic fractions with a white board or fraction manipulatives would be great, but are not required. You can usually find them on Amazon. I will be using them in demonstrations with the kids on my white board. Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Old Dominion University
Hello! My name is April Moser, and I am a former 6th grade classroom teacher, specializing in math. I live in Virginia, USA, near Washington, D.C.
In 2006 I earned a Masters Degree in Education, and went on to teach upper elementary school, focusing on math at all levels. Since having my own children, I have moved to online teaching, and have taught over 500 students online in the last few years!
I have always enjoyed math, and I have created a lot of classes that make learning math more exciting for the students. Each of our brains work differently, and that is the foundation on which I build my lessons. In class, if there are three ways to solve a problem, we will try them all! That way, your learner has a much better chance of understanding and grasping the concept.
We play Kahoot and Gimkit games to get the kids excited about reviewing concepts, and I am always available to answer questions when needed.
I look forward to meeting and working with your learner!
