Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 7
Welcome to 6th Grade Math! In this twice weekly ongoing class, we will get together to learn, practice, and discuss various topics covered in grade 6, and a bit from grade 7. My classroom is very friendly, engaging, and inclusive. If your learner prefers to observe, I will respect that. If they love to actively participate, that's great too! I will engage the class and will try to get each student involved at their own comfort level.

*I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent learners as a teacher and a mom, and am happy to work with you/them to ensure that they have an enjoyable class experience.*

We will start each class with a fun brain teaser, and then move on to an ice breaker/sharing time. Kids are welcome to share their pets, Lego creations, art projects, or something else about themselves if they wish. We will then move onto a short lesson on the current topic, and practice as a class.

We will touch on math fundamentals such as simple multiplication and division, along with diving in a bit deeper with fractions, geometry, and algebra! I am an experienced, flexible teacher, and can make adjustments based on the needs of the class. If we are working on one step equations and everyone gets it, I'll add in some multi-step equations.

KAHOOT AND GIMKIT GAMES
We will play review games every week on Kahoot and Gimkit. I will share a clickable link in chat and you will simply type in the game code that I give you to join the game. These games are super fun and easy to learn. If you have a separate device like a phone or iPad, it would be helpful, but you can also use the same device you are using for Outschool.

I like to remind everyone that it is just for fun and for practice. If your child prefers to use an anonymous name during the game to feel more comfortable, that is perfectly fine.

HOMEWORK (OPTIONAL)
I will provide a worksheet or handout after each class, and sometimes prior to class. These practice sheets are always optional. I am always available via email if a parent or learner has a question or needs support. My goal is to respond within 24 hours, but it will sometimes take a bit longer if it's over a weekend. **I am happy to check individual homework and provide feedback if the student shows their work, takes a picture of it, and sends it to me via email or posts in the classroom.**

Hello! My name is April Moser, and I am a former 6th grade classroom teacher, specializing in math. I live in Virginia, USA, near Washington, D.C.

In 2006 I earned a Masters Degree in Education, and went on to teach upper elementary school, focusing on math at all levels. Since having my own children, I have moved to online teaching, and have taught over 500 students online in the last few years!

I have always enjoyed math, and I have created a lot of classes that make learning math more exciting for the students. Each of our brains work differently, and that is the foundation on which I build my lessons. In class, if there are three ways to solve a problem, we will try them all! That way, your learner has a much better chance of understanding and grasping the concept.

We play Kahoot and Gimkit games to get the kids excited about reviewing concepts, and I am always available to answer questions when needed.

I look forward to meeting and working with your learner!
