Week 1 - Topics Covered: History of the ukulele Ukulele sizes Instrument parts How to hold the ukulele Ukulele hand positioning Week 2 Skills Taught: Reading chord frames Strum markings Reading music measures C chord and strumming. Week 3 Skills Taught: How to make the F chord Changing between the C and F chord Learn to play the Beatles, “Yellow Submarine.” Week 4 Skills Taught Making the C7 chord Hearing the difference between a major and a minor chord and the way they make us feel. Playing, “The Hokey Pokey” using the F and C7 chords. If time permits, we learn to make the A minor chord and learn to play The Beatles' song, “Eleanor Rigby.” The class uses the “Ukulele for Kids: Method and Songbook” by Chad Johnson. Continuing students are required to own their own copy of the book (with audio access) for practice at home. (Students must own their own copy for copyright laws) Published by Hal Leonard Publishing. Digital and hard copies are available.

decades. He is also a Teaching Artist Fellow with the Jubilation Foundation and Tides
