Advanced Level
All activities meet the National Standards for Music Education criteria for performing and responding. Designed for the proactive trombone player, this program is ideal for those preparing for competitions, seeking ensemble seats, or gearing up for collegiate study. We highly recommend that learners at this level take the initiative to arrange a meet and greet with the teacher. This will ensure a clear understanding of their goals and a well-planned path forward. CHARACTERISTICS OF ADVANCED CLASSES - highly independent and able to make most decisions in all aspects of trombone playing to literature, pathways of career development The learner is an active participant and leader and active collaborator in the learning process, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and engagement. - The learner is encouraged to make choices based on their specific interests and goals, empowering them to shape their own learning journey. - brings creative and artistic solutions yet maintains the idea of music as a method of communication - is developing proficiency or exhibits proficiency characteristics of honors or college-level work - ability to overcome personal challenges and has strategies to employ PREWORK FOR CLASS Upon enrollment, learners will receive an email to complete their 'Profile of a Musician.' This personalized document will serve as their cover page, providing a snapshot of their musical journey. It will also serve as a tool for developing their professional biography and highlighting their musical skills, fostering a sense of personalization and investment in the program. METHOD OF DELIVERY & SAMPLE LESSON Trombone private study in this class can be delivered with the following options in mind: Method 1: trial lesson for fit assessment and go forward planning Method 2: specific, defined lessons to achieve a particular outcome. Outcome may be time sensitive. These lessons may also serve to gather audience perspective Method 3: Continuous specialized study to meet long term goals Each delivery method is tailored to the goals of the learner and a learner-centered plan will be shared after the 1st meeting. Lessons will typically include: 1) personalized 1-on-1 conversation between learner & teacher 2) skill assessment for playing techniques 3) establish goals and expectations of success 4) repertoire needs 5) how to take our trombone session conversation to independent focus time 6) deliberate practice or performance activities All learners will receive a guided plan to execute against their goals. The plan will be collaborative and act as a working document that is revisited often. Activities can be designed to support performance goals for: - auditions - performance competitions - test and exams (in school, ensembles, ABRSM, ISOM) The learner can expect to be active and play their instrument for most of the booked time for all lessons. TEACHER SUPPORT - ALL ACCESS via VIDEO Recommendations and guidance are offered during the meeting session. Assignments and deliberate practice homework is offered that align specifically with learner goals. Learners are highly encouraged to send videos throughout the week of their practicing, performances, and questions and the teacher will provide video or written response guidance back for continued support outside of session times.

Learning Needs
This class is tailored to the individual learner. A 15-minute quick chat class is offered for meet & greets and consultation and is listed separately. The tutor is well-trained to adapt instructional style to learner preferences.
Parental Guidance
This is a trombone performance class. You can expect the level of sound contribution to your environment to increase. Plan for an environment for your learner and all members for the sound and physical space to play the trombone at its full volume.
Pre-Requisites
1. Music reading in at least 1 clef
2. Slide positions
3. General aural skills and note recognition
4. Multiple sources of existing music and to find and purchase music for the trombone
5. Profile of a musician
Supply List
To effectively participate in this class, learners will need: - trombone - music (The learner and the teacher will each need their own copies.) - Metronome (optional) - Tuner (optional) Learners should bring their existing collection of music to the course (method books, ensemble music, exercises, solos, etc) From time to time new music may need to be purchased and the teacher will inform the learner and the parent. Some method books include: - Carl Fischer 32 Etudes for Trombone available from - Sigmund Herring 40 Progressive Etudes for Trombone - Rochut Melodies Etudes for Trombone - ABRSM Syllabus for Trombone selected pieces from List A, B, and C - Exercises and Etudes for the Jazz Instrumentalist (Bass clef edition) From time to time, teacher-created resources will be provided in classroom posts.
