Mastery Evaluation
1-2 hours per week. It is strongly recommended that students practice on their own 3 times per week for 30 minutes. This will help them maintain and master skills practiced in class and accelerate their growth. Parents and students will receive feedback about students' work and individualized practice instructions on a weekly basis.Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level

This weekly one-on-one lesson will be tailored to the current level and musical goals of each student. Information about the student's previous experience will be requested prior to the first class, and a more complete plan will be available after meeting the student and assessing their interests and skills. Common learning goals include: -Understanding instrument assembly and care -Creating good tone through proper posture, breathing, and embouchure formation -Basics of reading music from the staff or improving music reading skills -Learning songs for performance in band groups, auditions, personal performance opportunities, or just for fun! -Expanding general musical knowledge through the lens of trombone -Fostering a deep love of music and performance while gaining confidence and perseverance from a growth-oriented task For students new to trombone, the Traditions of Excellence Book 1 is recommended. Other method books could be substituted based on learner's preference. Lessons for all learners will include the following elements: 1) Warmups - Breathing exercises, lip slurs, scales, and other technique-building activities 2) Repertoire - Evaluation and feedback on student's progress from previous week, demonstration of recommended strategies for continued growth, introduction of new concepts or songs 3) Something fun! - Engaging activities that strengthen musical skills, student-chosen songs, and more!

Students will continuously improve their knowledge and skills in trombone performance and general music topics.
Students will foster a deep love of music and performance while gaining confidence and perseverance from a growth-oriented task.

Supply List
Students will need the following supplies prior to their first class: -Working trombone. There are many rent-to-own options available for families who are not ready to purchase an instrument. Please message me for more information if you need help finding a suitable instrument. -Slide oil. Purchased individually or as part of a "Trombone care kit." -Method book. Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for Trombone is recommended for beginners, available from many online retailers for about $13. Please message me to request another method book if desired. -Music stand (optional). Not needed if student has another way to prop their method book upright. Piano stand, e-reader stand, or laptop can also work. -Practice mute (optional). Not required but allows for significantly quieter and less disruptive practice, especially outside of classes. ProTec ML204 recommended, available for about $35

In that time I have worked with students from K-12th grade in a variety of musical fields including band, choir, drama, general music, and 1-on-1 lessons. One of my greatest accomplishments was to found and grow a new school band program to over 150 students in less than 5 years.
