The Snowman - An Interactive ESL Reading Class (Level 3)
What's included

In this interactive reading class, students will experience a snow day with Teacher Laurie as we read together the story "The Snowman". As we read and discuss the story, we will be practicing important reading skills like asking and answering questions. Students will also learn how to build words ending in "ALL" through use of phonics (Example: B-ALL, T-ALL...) I like to make my teaching fun and engaging for the students. That's why I created an interactive slide show including a reward system. In this class, the students will get to build a snowman throughout the lesson. I put a lot of efforts into making reward systems because I feel that it helps the students stay focused and motivated in learning. Although this is a reading class, a lot of speaking is involved. I like to have my students speak as much as possible. Of course, they will get to answer questions about the story, but I like to also encourage peer-to-peer interactions where the students get to ask questions to their teacher or classmate. This one time class is designed for students who have experience taking ESL classes and are now at an Intermediate level. How can you know if your child is at the appropriate level for this class? - Is your child able to sound out words and read simple sentences in English? - Is your child able to have basic conversations in English? - Does your child enjoy learning while playing games? If so this class is the perfect fit for them! Please reach out to me, Teacher Laurie if you love this class but you are wondering whether it is an appropriate level for your child!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from United States Institute of Language and Clerical Studies
Hello!
My name is Lauriane but my students call me Teacher Laurie. I have a bachelor's degree in Fundamentals and Methodology of Education and a TESOL certificate. I have been teaching English as a second language in person and online for over 4 years and I absolutely love it! I believe that learning a language should be fun and interactive. That’s why my classes include games, songs and videos to help the students remember what they are learning.
While living in the Dominican Republic, I had to learn different languages. I can now speak English, French, Spanish and Haitian Creole. This has helped me understand the challenges we face when we learn a new language and also develop effective ways to learn faster!
I am looking forward to meeting you and begin our learning adventure together!
