Have you ever wondered why you dream? Do your dreams mean anything? What about nightmares? In this one-time class, we will cover the science behind dreaming. First, we look at the history of dreaming in other cultures. Then, we look at the area of the brain responsible for dreaming and cover the mechanisms of dreaming during REM-stage sleep. I have been the Coordinator for a hospital-based sleep disorders lab for the last eight years and am a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. I have worked with thousands of patients over the years with sleep disorders and one of the most common questions is about their dreams. How do dreams and science fit together? Well, dreams have a purpose for your brain! As a former middle school science teacher, let me lead your student on a quest to understand dreams.
