With the understanding that students read the class beforehand, we will simply discuss it in class. I will ask study questions to guide the discussion to encourage student reflection on: 1) What the poem tells us about Greek society 2) What the poem tells us about Greek religious practice 3) What we can learn from Hesiod in our own day.

As we read these stories, we will learn how to
1) Read a story in its historical context
2) Identify literary features to identify an author's intended themes
3) Compare the story's values with our own culture
