If you are interested in 1:1 and/or need a different time, please ask! :) Students will go over the standards needed to move up to from first to second grade. We will cover many Language Arts topics which include but are not limited to: reading short passages, comprehension, elements of story, and assessing for learning. We will also go over math concepts such as adding, subtracting, graphing, which has more, which is shorter, and more! My class is structured in an engaging and positive environment. 1. Students will first do an ice-breaker to get to know each other and get more comfortable. 2. As a whole group, we will go over the calendar daily. 3. Then we will discuss the topics (Math and ELA) of the day. 4. Next, we will do activities in an "I do, we do, you do" fashion. This is where the teacher models the assignment, an example or two is done together as a class, then students can perform individually. 5. After this, some reviewing can take place on what they learned that day/ assessing. 6. Last, students and teachers say goodbye. Students will be interacting in a multitude of ways. Students will play games such as jeopardy to review learning, watch interactive and engaging videos, hold discussions, interact in zoom, etc. In order to take this course students should have basic knowledge of alphabet, letter and sound recognition, reading CVC (short words such as cat, nap, mad) words, as well as CVCE words (cane, tape, bike, etc) and some understanding/comprehending of story telling and be able to recall main events. For math, students should have basic adding and subtracting skills. Students will gain confidence in their abilities to read, write, comprehend as well as add, subtract, look at and use graphs, tell which is longer or shorter, etc and place them closer to their goal and be better prepared for their school year in second grade! The syllabus is as follows (please note this can change at teachers discretion based on learning needs). 1.
