Do you have a learner who is stressed about a test? Feeling unorganized? Not sure how to study effectively? Does he/she have trouble taking tests? If so, this is a “must take” course! So often we hear from students, “I’m just not a good test taker.” This class will give students strategies to study well and therefore do better on all tests and assignments and learn valuable skills that are helpful in any grade at any age. This Study Skills and Test Taking Strategies Class provides the foundation for students to “learn how to learn”. Students will learn the “why”, “what”, and “how” of the study skills required to succeed in school. Some of the topics that will be explored in this class include: ✅ How to create an ideal study environment. Also, the “do’s and don’ts” for an optimal study environment. ✅ Time Management and Organizational Skills. ✅ Tactics concerning how to improve memory by using various strategies for the purpose of better study habits. ✅ Various test taking skills. ✅ Important critical thinking and listening skills. ✅ Test preparation and test-taking strategies including how to manage your time (and nerves!) on tests. ✅ Initiation strategies including planning (short and long-term) and provide a proven planning and prioritization structure. ✅ How to “chunk” work to help with initiation and work completion. ✅ How to estimate the time a task will take as well as strategies to best know, plan and use the time you have. ✅ We will explore the questions “When test day comes, what strategies can I use to do my best?” and “If I didn’t do as well as hoped, how can I avoid that the next time?” ✅ The critical skill of self-advocacy and work to ensure all students feel that they are in charge of their own learning. When it comes to studying, it’s important that your learner knows what they should study, how they should study and the ideal test-taking steps. This class will help your learner learn how to study more effectively, and to be more successful when they take tests or exams. Most importantly, we will learn that studying doesn't have to be boring, dull, or difficult. Once your child learns to study efficiently, they may find their classes becoming easier and even more fun!

⭐ Teaching Philosophy ⭐
I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. I am very patient, flexible and kind. I encourage my students to ask questions, take risks and overcome the fear of making mistakes as this is part of the learning process. All levels are welcome (we will start from scratch if need be).
⭐ Hobbies ⭐
In my free time I enjoy reading, looking for shark teeth (I currently have a collection of more than 10,000 teeth!), and photography. I live on Folly Beach and my favorite shots to shoot are of surfers here on the island. Surf photography is a huge passion of mine! I also love my pups, Jessie and Remi. They're both Chocolate Labs. My biggest passion and focus right now is my nonprofit, Project Z of the Lowcountry where we provide beds to children who don't have a bed of their own at home. It feels odd to be out of the classroom but doing Project Z full time has been such a blessing! I hope to connect with you and your family so that I can get a little teaching back in my life. I'll always be a teacher at heart!
