Story Time STEM: Bring Your Pumpkin to Class for Measuring and Counting Fun!

In this Multi Day class, students will participate in a read-aloud and discussion of a book about pumpkins and participate in a fall/Halloween STEM (STEAM) activity. All learners of varying abilities and needs are welcome to join.

Class Experience

- Students will be able to actively listen to a read aloud and participate in a class discussion.
- Students will be able to measure an object and skip count by twos, fives, or tens.
With help from an adult, cut the top off of the pumpkin just before the start of the 2nd class.
Needed for 1st Day of Class - Pumpkin, any size appropriate for carving - Measuring tape, one used for sewing that can measure around an object - paper and pencil Needed for 2nd Day of Class - Same pumpkin as 1st day with the top cut off - Newspapers or garbage bags under pumpkin to contain the mess - Spoon for scooping out the seeds
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will need assistance with cutting the top off of their pumpkin and with carving their pumpkins after the 2nd class is over.
