Depending on the amount of content we are able to get through during class, students may be asked to read a chapter on their own outside of class. This would be approximately 10-15 pages of the graphic novel.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 5
Each session will include some reading of the book, discussion and working on reading comprehension strategies. I will first model the use of some of these strategies, such as making predictions and visualization. The majority of the sessions will be discussion-based. The key will be to have learners interact with the novel as much as possible, which will help them understand it more. Example of the schedule of a session: 1. Introductions 2. Making Predictions of the next chapter 3. Read aloud one or two chapters 4. Summarize the chapter 5. Draw a picture to go with the chapter Prior Knowledge Needed: Learners should be able to read at at least a 2nd grade level. My teaching style: I truly believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable and can relate to the material in some shape or form. That belief itself drives much of my instruction!
Learning Goals
