Class Experience

Students will watch 2 videos each week that discuss a feeling or emotion word and how to recognize it in themselves and others. Another 2 videos will include social stories that will be acted out with puppets the lesson for the week. I will include discussion questions in the classroom that discuss the application to the real world and our lives. Students may discuss these questions with their grown-up at home and post a response on the Outschool classroom page. Journal options for written words and pictures on a topic that matches our lesson will also be posted at the beginning of the class. Students are welcome to share their thoughts and ideas in the Outschool classroom, and share their journals as they feel comfortable on the classroom page or through a message to the teacher.

As this is a class on social skills, talking and interacting with the teacher and other students in the online classroom in a respectful manner is highly encouraged, but not required. Interactions can be through videos, pictures, or written comments of each journal entry 2 times per week after each class video. Students should comment and respond to others' journal posts at least once per week as able. Accommodations can be made for those that need it; please contact me if you have questions or concerns.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their social and emotional intelligence through discussion and practice at home. Students will learn about emotions and feeling words, recognizing them in their own bodies, recognizing them in others, and what to do with their emotions.
