So You Can Sing - Private Voice Lessons (Ages 8-18)

In this one-on-one private class, we will:

(1) learn some new mindsets about singing; 
(2) exercise various muscles involved in speaking and singing, including the eyes; 
(3) learn some basic musicianship skills; 
(4) learn some easy ways to connect with ourselves and others through movement; and 
(5) learn a variety of songs chosen primarily by the learner.

In general, we will spend most of the time on repertoire, and we will learn primarily through demonstration, application, and practice.  All conceptual learning (rhythm, solfege, pitch matching, sight reading, expressive movements, etc.) will be applied to a song.  As children in the 8-13 age group can differ widely in their physical and mental development, I will adjust the classes accordingly to be more exercise-based or performance-based depending on the learner's personality and learner's goals.

Before each class, please let me know what song(s) you would like to sing, and please have a second device to play accompaniment tracks.

Please note that, in my experience, the 8-11 year-old learners who seem to thrive in this weekly ongoing class are children who love to sing all day long and seem to never have a shortage of songs that they are listening to or wanting to learn.  Since this is primarily a recreational class, if the child does not have a clear goal of wanting to perfect old songs or learn new songs each week, they will most likely get bored with lessons, which is very normal and not indicative of singing ability.  They will most likely thrive instead in a social group class or performance class, choir, or school/community musical. Another option is to try weekly lessons for about 4 weeks and then take intermittent lessons until your child is older and ready for more formal or professional training.
