So You Think You Can Sing - Voice Lessons for Broadway Bound Performers (11-18)
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
This is a private class primarily structured for learners who are interested in the growth mindset and habits of professional performing artists and who are curious about what it's like to pursue a career on Broadway. This is also a class for learners who simply love to sing and who are willing to challenge themselves, make mistakes, troubleshoot difficulties, and build connections. No prior experience is necessary, but a desire to sing a variety of songs and a willingness to learn and grow is ideal for a commitment to weekly ongoing lessons. If you are not sure if this class is right for you, please consider enrolling in a one-time class or consultation prior to enrolling in a subscription: https://outschool.com/classes/one-time-private-introductory-singing-class-zpj5Eram#usKVbED4EG In this class, both student and I will choose songs. We will learn various singing styles (music theatre, pop, rock, country, jazz, classical/legit) and build a standard Broadway audition book. We will also develop the speaking voice and practice auditioning and performing skills. Sometimes I will provide the sheet music or learners will need to purchase sheet music from Musicnotes (~$6.00). Throughout the ongoing classes, students will learn: (1) growth mindsets of professional performers and storytellers; (2) pitches and rhythms of a variety of audition cuts of pop/rock and musical theatre songs; (3) singing tips to build performance confidence; (4) easy ways to connect with themselves and with an audience; (5) introduction to self-taping for auditions; (6) the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA); (7) voice and speech tips to prepare for "slates" and "sides"; and (8) easy movements to be an expressive performer. Practical troubleshooting will be the main driving force behind this class. As a coach, I often meditate on the following questions: (1) How do we make sounds and communicate with speech and song? (2) How do we convert 2D symbols (text) into a 3D body (performer) and create a 4D emotional experience (audience)? (3) How do we use these skills to live more freely, intentionally, and expressively? I hope to instill a beginner's appreciation for and a desire to start answering these questions. As I continually train to be a useful coach, I hope the learners of this class will continually learn to be useful artists. Please request a time request if you don't see a time that works with your schedule.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a professional vocal coach with 25+ years of experience as a private voice teacher, audition coach, music director, and piano accompanist. I am based in New York City where I spend most of my time helping young aspiring athletes and artists pursue their musical dreams of performing on Broadway. With the wonderful technology of Zoom, I hope to serve a wider range of young artists who may be interested in pursuing a career in the performing arts.
Although I work primarily with young professionals, I also hope to serve learners whose goals are not necessarily to sing professionally. I hope to instill some of the love and joy of singing that I had growing up without the pressure of grades, perfection, and judges. I am excited to meet new aspiring artists whose musical dreams may simply be to learn a new song, record a song for a family member, sing karaoke with friends, or jam out alone with Spotify.
I have tried to list different levels of classes to meet the needs of a variety of learners. If you would like a customized class, please do not hesitate to contact me.
