Retelling Narrative Stories Using IEW Structure and Style (6 Weeks FLEX)

Students will learn the first three units presented in IEW using excerpts from Aesop Fables and other narrative stories. After this class, students will be able to write a three paragraph essay to retell a narrative story.

Week 1:  Unit 1 & 2: Key Word Outlines/Writing From Notes
Week 2:  Unit 2:  Writing from Notes 
Week 3:  Unit 3:  Retelling Narrative Stories/3 Paragraph Essay
Week 4:  Unit 3:  Retelling Narrative Stories/3 Paragraph Essay
Week 5:  Unit 3:  Retelling Narrative Stories/3 Paragraph Essay
Week 6:  Unit 3:  Retelling Narrative Stories Final Review

No IEW experience or background knowledge is required. 

Students will be given writing assignments to complete each week that allows them to practice the concepts introduced.  Students receive a checklist that helps them organize their paper and ensure literary devices covered are included.  This allows the student to self evaluate and have a clear guideline when writing papers.  

Students can expect to interact in the following ways:
1. A video lesson will be posted inside of the classroom at the beginning of each week.  
2.  Weekly, students will be given a PDF of guided notes, writing assignments and a checklist to complete.  
3. By the end of the week, students will post their completed assignments for the teacher inside of the Outschool classroom.
4. The teacher will provide written or video feedback on the completed work according to the rubric.  

NOTE:  A PDF of the guided notes will be sent to students before class.  This will need to be printed each week and is usually 6-8 pages.
