This is the SECOND semester of this course. Students MUST have completed the first semester in order to enroll. The lessons in this course will teach IEW Structure and Style in writing. Structure teaches students how to organize their thoughts before they write. Style teaches students how to engage the reader with literary devices called dress-ups and decorations in IEW. Students watch the video lesson and complete the work each week prior to class day. On class day, the content covered in the video lesson is reinforced and opportunities for students to share their work with peers is provided. Week 1: Unit 4: Summarizing a Reference Week 2-5: Unit 5: Writing from Pictures Week 6-9: Unit 6: Summarizing Multiple References Week 10-14: Unit 7: Inventive Writing Week 15: Review Stylistic Techniques Covered: quality adjectives www.asia clause #2 prepositional openers Students who take online classes with Mrs. Brown benefit in four ways: 1. With engaging instruction from a certified IEW instructor, students receive live teaching that reinforces and provides added insight into the video instruction. 2. Learners get to interact with the instructor and other students through lectures, games, slides, video clips, and discussion. 3. Unit 4 is a report writing unit that teaches students how to summarize a reference. Students learn to use one reference, write an outline on a specific topic, and draft a summary that includes a topic and clincher sentence. Your child will learn how to write strong body paragraphs for an essay.

Unit 5 is a creative writing unit where students write from pictures. Students learn how to ask questions in order to fill in the details. They continue to practice adding solid topic sentences, supporting details, and clincher sentences.
