I encourage students to go through their checklists in their books as they complete their homework, and then they will submit their final papers to me. I will return papers with both positive and constructive feedback, not a letter grade. Students will be writing from a checklist, so students and parents will know exactly what is required for each assignment.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
THIS IS THE SECOND PART of my course on Canadian History-Based Writing using the curriculum from IEW. We will be beginning the book at Lesson 16. ----------------------------------------------------------- As we continue our journey through Canadian history, our writing is going to gain even more description as we focus on summarizing multiple references (as we do with research), multi-paragraph writing, Inventive Writing, Critiques, and Formal Essays. Each of these writing structures will be developed using material from the book covering topics such as D-Day, Joseph-Armand Bomardier, prominent Canadians, more! Our focus will be on the lessons introducing new stylistic techniques and/or methods. Because this curriculum is sequential and builds upon structure, you will already need experience with the first 5 units of IEW methods because we will not be spending time going back to those initial units. In this class, we will cover final 4 units for the IEW methods. As we write, students will be experimenting with even more "dress-ups", sentence openers, and figurative language, to add style and interest to their topics. These will all be outlined in the weekly assignments. During class, we will use discussion, modeling, games, and other learning techniques to reinforce vocabulary and style, while expanding our writing skills into report and essay writing. Homework is required and assigned after each class to incorporate both the writing method and style (dress-ups). I encourage students to go through a process given in class as they complete their homework, and then they will submit their final papers to me. I will return papers with both positive and constructive feedback, not a letter grade. Students will be writing from a checklist, so students and parents will know exactly what is required for each assignment. Vocabulary and literature suggestions will be given so students can use these to connect to their writing. Students MUST have prior experience with Units 1-5 of IEW and/or have completed my first class on Writing About Canadian History (Part 1), AND be prepared for essay writing. ****Students MUST purchase the book below to participate in this class, as all assignments come from the book. I am unable to reproduce ANY PAGES from the books for student-use.*****

I am an IEW Registered Instructor and have taught several IEW-related courses on Outschool since 2018. I find that students are challenged, engaged, and learn to enjoy playing with their writing. As a citizen of the United States, I find Canadian history fascinating and an important aspect of our North American culture.
