This is the SECOND SEMESTER of this course. STUDENTS MUST TAKE THE FIRST SEMESTER COURSE TO REGISTER. The lessons in this course will teach creative writing and report writing using IEW Structure and Style. Structure teaches students how to organize their thoughts before they write. Style teaches students how to engage the reader with literary devices called dress-ups and decorations in IEW. This course also incorporates Fix It! Grammar Book 2. Students watch the video lesson and complete the work each week prior to class day. This class will use GOOGLE CLASSROOM to upload all homework and receive feedback and grades. On class day, the content covered in the video lesson is reinforced and opportunities for students to share their work with peers is provided. Week 1-3 Unit 5: Writing From Pictures Unit 5: Writing from Pictures is important? Describing pictures trains students in the art of event description, which informs their future efforts in narratives, research papers—even journalism! Week 4-7 Unit 6: Summarizing Multiple References Unit 6: Summarizing Multiple References builds upon Unit 4 and teaches students how to write reports using multiple references. The goal of this unit is for students to be able to use multiple references, taking outline notes on a specific topic from each reference and to fuse and write a summary from the fused outline. Weeks 8-10 Unit 7: Inventive Writing Thanks to Unit 7: Inventive Writing, the blank page becomes an inviting depository of favorite things instead of a terrifying void. This unit teaches gives students a structure to use when writing about virtually anything, including their personal experiences. This unit is most beneficial for prompt-based writing assignments in which students are given a prompt, but no text or pictures. They must use their own prior knowledge to invent a logical, cohesive composition. Weeks 11-12 Unit 8: Formal Essay Model Unit 8: Formal Essay Model teaches students the proper structure for formal essays of five paragraphs. Students will continue the proper use of an introduction and conclusion in a five-paragraph composition. Weeks 13 - 15 Unit 9: Formal Critique Unit 9: Formal Critiques will teach students to use a five-paragraph format to write book reports, reviews, and critiques. Students will develop a critique vocabulary, which aids in literary analysis. Stylistic techniques taught are: ly adverbs who/which clauses strong verbs quality adjectives because clauses www.asia clauses #2 prepositional openers #3 ly adverb openers #4 ing openers #5 clausal openers #6 vss openers Students who take online classes with Mrs. Brown benefit in four ways: 1. With engaging instruction from a certified IEW instructor, students receive live teaching that reinforces and provides added insight into the video instruction. 2. Through the live classes, students benefit from lively interaction with other students while receiving direction and accountability for composition assignments. 3. Learners will interact with the instructor and each other through lecture, games, slides, video clips, and discussion. 4. Perhaps most importantly, students receive timely and helpful feedback on every written composition they submit by the due date. Late assignments do NOT receive feedback. ***REQUIRED MATERIAL: 1. https://iew.com/affiliate/161737/shop/products/coming-soon-structure-and-style-students-year-2-level-b-basic-forever-streaming-or-dvd 2.
