Class Experience
Explore a topic that interests you, share your opinions, learn from your teacher and peers, and craft a great essay. It can be fun and easy! The ability to write a good persuasive essay is a skill that students will need throughout their years in school and beyond. In this class students will improve writing skills with step by step guidance and feedback. It is a flexible schedule class: we do rely on live meetings but will instead communicate through videos, messages, slides and assignments to work step-by-step through the writing process. This allows students to work on their own schedules at convenient times. Each week of class has a goal and an assignment due that culminates in the completion of a 2-page persuasive essay. How does the Flex Class work? I begin each week with a class video introducing the step by step process of writing the essay. Resources are posted on the class page and student’s questions and conversations are answered daily. I keep office hours twice a week where I am available for live (messaging) chat. A follow up video may be posted on Thursdays. Each week students are expected to complete and submit assigned work by Friday and all work will receive individualized feedback. Student interaction is facilitated through Google Forms. Students will get weekly poll questions about peer topic ideas and have the opportunities to suggest research resources to each other. Because the goal is a persuasive essay students will participate in "Am I convinced?" interactive activities on each others' essay development. On the last week of class essays are due to the teacher and are shared with the class for peer feedback. Week one: Brainstorming to choose a topic – narrowing the topic – deciding on the thesis. Due to the age range for this class, most issues of political contention will be discouraged as topics. Week two: researching, finding good sources and how to document those sources Week three: Outlining the essay Week four: Writing and proofreading the essay Week five: sharing and feedback
Learning Goals

Hello Parents and Learners!
I am excited to welcome you to my online classroom! We can come together from around the world to explore academic and extra-curricular topics in a professional, yet fun and accessible setting. I bring hands on examples and vivid digital effects to my lessons. I have a Bachelors Degree in Education and years of experience teaching all subjects in traditional classes, special education classrooms, as a home schooling parent and in online education! Here’s some fun additional experience and background I bring to the classroom: I have more than 10 years professional experience as a top technician on Italian race bikes including Ducatis and MV Augustas. I have racing experience both on the track and in the ‘pit’. I have done make-up on SciFi movies in Hollywood. I crochet a wide variety of useful and whimsical items, and I'm a gardener and backyard chicken farmer. I look forward to sharing these skills and experience with your learner. I’ll be adding more classes to my schedule regularly. Please be sure to follow and check back often! Thank You!
